Airbnb **** 5 bedrooms view holiday accomodation – Host Demanded Extra Money on WhatsApp
I booked a place on Airbnb in good faith. Shortly after confirming, the so-called “host” messaged me privately on WhatsApp (outside of the Airbnb platform) and claimed there were “hidden rules” requiring an additional R2000 refundable deposit. He then sent me personal bank details to pay this extra amount. This is completely unacceptable and goes against Airbnb’s policies. I have used Airbnb for 4 years and never once experienced a host trying to force off-platform payments. After checking further, I discovered that the property was actually occupied and not legitimately available on Airbnb at all. ⚠️ Warning to others: Never continue a booking conversation outside Airbnb. Never pay deposits or fees directly into someone’s account – Airbnb handles this securely. Always verify the legitimacy of listings if something feels suspicious. I have reported the matter to Airbnb and urge them to act quickly to protect customers and remove *****ulent listings.
