I have found the Apex High School in Eerste River, an absolute joy (as matric invigilator). I am used to a private, upper class Boys' school, disciplining guys of 17 / 18 years old in a class, and also university students, and great was my delight when I found that these kids from possibly less-privileged backgrounds (I am generalising), are behaving so well. Two matric pupils allowed me to walk first and called me M'am. Wow! That is what I am used to, but I did not expect it. To me were are all equal.
Whatever the school principal and teachers are doing - it is amazing. For the matric exams everything is done by the book. I have, unfortunately, not experienced the lower grades (1-7) as a Concessions Facilitator and erstwhile WCED matric marker, but I have invigilated for other NSC exams, and your school stands out as a beacon of light. Your matrics were so well prepared, even with Covid. Well done!!! I am more impressed than I can say.
I will be concessions facilitator there for the Gr 8 - 12 exams any time again, as a seasoned facilitator and teacher.
The headmistress, Renate van der Westhuizen and staff are obviously doing the right things. I can only say well done x a million times. The reception staff that I dealt with, the gate guards and the Acorn staff, Madri van der Westhuizen , are also really assets to the excellency. Well done!
