I got admitted at Akeso Arcadia and what unfolded there in the two weeks that i stayed there shook me. The second night of being admitted at the hospital I was giving a wrong medication. I didn’t sleep that night because I was given wrong medication. I reported the matter to the matron. I never heard anything from her either. The pill issue was the talk of the ward so much that i started getting victimised by the nurses so much that some went as far as saying they cannot give me my medication. There is no order at all. Some of the people administering the pills knows nothing about the pills they giving out to the patients The food they gave us was sometimes rotten i blame the company they gave the tender to(TSEBO) the food sometimes gave us stomach bugs. There was an Occupational the****** that accused me of *****ing a mozaic which i had made my self in art class by the name Lihle Zikalala. According to me Akeso should try hiring people the******s if a whole OT can be a bully bullying her patients then that occupational the****** should be admitted at the hospital. The hospital is meant to help better their patients but you come out of there with more issues than you came with. The fact that teenagers can sneak in substances into the hospital is even more frustrating because you will send your child there only for them to come back with a drug issue as well. There is no rules being followed. Thank you to people like Pakiso,Tshepiso and lesego for making the place better and actually doing their jobs. Big ups to you guys for treating patients there like actual human beings.

Akeso is such aprofessional facility whereby when one needs peace of mind could go there rest while learning some soft skills.Their topics are very insightful for our day to day life and motivational. The OT are amazingly great and very patient. I will mention two as i met two Tshepi wow she has so much passionate and patience for her role. Palesa she is such a darling, is like we have met several times before. Im a very difficult patient but their patience with me was amazing. The doctor's active listening and giving you time to express your self. My Psychologist always patience and allow one time to go on and on then ask only one question. she is wow, great listners, Not pushy than other the******s.The nurses ohh just didt get their names, that shift was amazing and super friendly.whenever one rings a bell thy come but the facility could do better to get nurses more engaged with patients as they spent lot of time around them but not with them.

I had a great experience in Akeso. It was my first time. I didn’t know what to expect at first but I met good nurses. I was recommended by my social worker Rhulani Bopape. She works with a great team of the******s that consists of a psychiatrist, psychologist, a physio and occupational the******s. I attended group sessions in the mornings with great occupational the******s and clinical psychologists that set the tone for my day and gave me ideas on burning issues in my life that I could discuss with the******s on one on one sessions. The topics are on mindfulness (wk1), emotions (wk2)and relationships(wk3). I shared a room with 3 individuals, together we were 4. It can make you miss your space but focus on working on yourself and do the homeworks given to you by your the****** and you will progress nicely and heal. Even though healing is a process and journey that can not last 3 weeks but co operation with you the******s helps. The food and snacks were good 80% of the times. I stayed for 3 wks and I recommend that you go there with a positive and open mind. Focusing on yourself and doing the work.

My daughter was at Akeso for a week and had only been seen ONCE by a Psychiatrist. The original doctor she was referred to was too busy and after that, she went back and forth. The doctor she was seeing hardly got back to me, would never return my calls I phoned SO MANY TIMES but was never phoned back They are most famous for "I will phone you back in 20 mins" but never do Two doctors admitted to the injustice that was given to my daughter, yet that did not help! The Head of the hospital threw the phone down in my ear when I complained about it. SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL To this day, the relevant doctor has not even gotten back to me with an actual diagnosis and why my daughter was given the meds she was given. She sent my daughter home with a discharge summary for me and that is how I found out! She was there for three weeks and I had ONE conversation with the doctor regarding my daughter! JUST ONE! Just a poor excuse for a psychiatric hospital. These are people's livelihood and emotions we are talking about! My daughter had an EEG done and the doctor did not even bother to let me know what the results were. I emailed Akeso Head Office, spoke to a Marketer. She told me she would get back to me ... STILL WAITING! The doctor said on the discharge summary that she "obtained collateral from mother" NOT TRUE I have names, times, screenshots, the amount of calls / emails I sent ...but they think we are a joke! Someone needs to be held accountable and they should not be allowed to interact with patients!

I would not recommend this facility at all to anyone! Especially for teenagers. 1. The staff is negligent If you don't care about your teenagers and their belongings then this is definitely the place to take them! This is no place for health or wellbeing. I'd even argue it's psychological torture. A. Negligent with PATIENTS I do not think they assess the children first before putting them with their roommates. The nursess are rude to the children and somewhat bullies them. They leave the children alone without supervision. They have relationships there instead of being encouraged to focus on themselves and their healing. They are allowed to smoke with their friends without their parents' express consent. Possibility of them being high and engaging in destructive behavior there. This place is the devil's lair. Your child will pick up worse habits than when they arrived. B. Negligent with DEVICES The nurses are reckless with devices when taking them away. They just stash them on top of each other carelessly. My child came back with a slightly cracked phone screen showing that there was pressure on the device. In addition, a laptop with a malfunctioning screen. In fact doesn't switch on at all. 2. The staff lacks integrity We reported the laptop not working as a result of negligence of staff and I was promised that an investigation would be carried out, cameras checked to verify and that a report of the incident would be made. When my child follows up nothing concrete is reported. I was never even called back on the issue after such a promise. On the day my child was discharged I refused to leave until I get a solution to the issue which was long reported. Some Sabelo guy was sent to talk to me and all he did was threaten me with the fact that I signed an indemnity. He really just tried to get rid of me on the day. He claimed that the person who works with the cameras was on leave and that they would call me next week after going through the footage. That was 21 August 2020 and today is 01 September 2020 and I have never received a call from them. Which says a lot about the integrity and level of care in this facility. 3. The food is horrible My child complained a lot about the food. It seems it needs a lot of improvement and variety. 4. Doctors are the only professionals Dr. Motiang, Dr. Roets, and Dr. Kgabo are the real professionals that stood out for me. They show care and sensitivity towards the patients and families. The engagement were nothing outside of respect, support and care. They're really the reason I gave 2 stars. If your situation is not life-threatening, I suggest you consult with them privately outside of the facility. REGRET is my biggest feeling when it comes to this facility. I would choose a different one if given another choice. I don't wish anyone circumstances that would warrant them here, but if you find yourself in that position, don't ever consider this facility for a child.

The canteen service is pathetic, I have been here for almost 2 weeks and been fed pork daily, is it cz it's the cheapest on the market?. They don't have enough plates, they say lunch is at 13:00 but I could only be dished for at 13:20,because am waiting a for plate. Their plates have chips you ask yourself if they do eat from such plates. When I got my food rice was swimming on a dam of water. Government hospitals food n hospitally is better than this **** n we pay a lot to be here!
