BEWARE of Agent Christo Deacon! Unprofessional and Dishonest!

We appointed Christo Deacon as our rental agent on a sub-lease of the garden flat at the property we are presently renting (for whom he is also the rental agent). The warning signs that he is useless and dishonest were there early already and I wish we'd heeded them before we appointed him. Apart from the fact that it took months to find a suitable tenant, Mr. Deacon would routinely pay our tenant's rental over to us late. Sometimes several days after receiving it (on time) from the tenant. He never provided a signed copy of our lease despite several requests and never fulfilled any other 'management' obligations despite taking a management fee each month. The same uselessness is prevalent in our primary rental agreement. We have to ask the landlord for copies of our municipal account each month and he never inspects the property. He also paid over our rental to the landlord late most months, blaming us for late payment, which was an outright lie! In June 2017, after asking several times for our rent to be paid over, and after many lies and broken promises, Mr. Deacon eventually admitted to using our rental for personal reasons. Only after threatening to open a case of theft at the police station and reporting his conduct to the Estate Agency Affairs Board, did he eventually pay over the money on 20th June. As a result of his conduct, I terminated our agreement and gave him until 31st July to pay over my tenant's deposit. Despite several follow-up requests, he has, to date, still not done so and simply ignores all correspondence. I have lodged a complaint against him with the EEAB (Ref. No. KK ********** I) and encourage any others who have similar challenges with him to do the same before more people are conned. He also trades under Northern Suburbs Property Rentals and has several complaints against him under that brand!
