I appointed Renaldo Nortje under the bussines name Bettapod (www.bettapod.com)advertised in Homemakers Expo to do alterations to my house. According to the contract a 50% deposit had to be paid before comencing work which I paid (R230K). Ronaldo Nortje used my tools to do the work because he said his tools are on another site which is almost finished. After he built the first wall which was halfround instead of straight I stopped him. He used planks & bricks for scaffolding &I had to supervise the work. I asked for registered plans which he could never produced. Up to date he has never paid back any of my deposit. He has a lot of Alias companies eg. The Granny Flat etc. He has different adresses & numbers. BE CAREFULL OF THIS MAN!!

BettaPod (Pty) Ltd director Ronaldo Nortje In August 2017 I had the misfortune of contacting BettaPod (Pty) Ltd after seeing their business adverti*****t in the Homemakers Renovate magazine. On the 8 September 2017 I signed a contract with them to convert a double garage into a flat, building commenced on the 18/19 October 2017. For the first two weeks building continued, then in November 2017 everything come to a standstill with Brad the building manager/foreman not returning calls and no response from Ronaldo either. From here on it was an absolute nightmare, with rudeness and aggressive almost threating message from Ronaldo. I have a day by day report on this matter. At this point I had no option but to borrow funds and take a loan to complete the building to a point where I could live in it as I had nowhere else to stay. In January 2018 I tried to make an arrangement with Ronaldo to recover part of the money I had spent to complete the building inside, he undertoke to pay the amount off over 3 months. As so many promises had not been fulfilled I was not hopeful, of course no funds have been paid. I am sure I am not the only one in this position. I have now been advised that Ronaldo has applied for voluntary liquidation of BettaPod (Pty) Ltd on the 6 March 2018 which can be viewed on www.cipc.co.za. Please take care when dealing with this company; many people have been left with half build flats, financial loss and nowhere to turn. Do full checks on Ronaldo Nortje Facts, Ronaldo Nortje and Sunhomes and Fin 24 Archives Sun Homes. “I wish I had”. If i could i would put a minus rating

In November 2017 Bettapod started building a cottage on my property for my elderly parents. They told my parents they would move in before Christmas. On the 15th December 2017, I queried whether they were closing over Christmas and was advised they were not. We did not see them again until Mid January. At this stage the owner met with my parents to let them know that his accounts manager and supervisor had been stealing from him and had been fired however he was not unable to pay his contractors. At this stage my parents had already paid R20 000 to fill the pool, R150 000 deposit and R75 000 Doors, windows, fixtures and fittings (of which they received nothing). They agreed to pay an R26 000 in order for the contractors to return to work. Very little happened between then and now. A few weeks ago Renaldo again went to see my parents and asked them for additional money, at this stage they didn't really owe him anything further as the remaining R24 000 was for the remainder of the kitchen payment R10 000 and R14 000 for bathroom fixture, fittings and tiles. Last week Renaldo again advised he needed to see my parents. They knew he was going to request more money and therefore decided to cut their losses and fired Bettapod. They have now contracted a handy man to finalise the cottage for them. All they have at this stage is a structure with electrical wires. Nothing is connected. The plumbing connection was not finalised and there is no front door on the cottage. They have had to buy their own interior doors (except 1) they have bought all their own paint, tiles, bathroom appliances, fixtures, fittings, trim as none of this was received from Bettapod. They were notified by the joiner on Saturday that Bettapod has gone into voluntary liquidation and that the joiner should obtain payment from the client........ How is it possible that one man can have such a terrible affect on so many families. Praying on the elderly. He should be ashamed of himself. I told my mom months ago not to trust him, but she always gives people the benefit of the doubt.

Red Alert!!! Unscrupulous / Untrustable Bettapod: We concur with all complaints registered to date as we encountered the same Modus Operandi. Bettapod was contracted to build a granny flat on an existing double garage foundation. An agreement of 8-10 weeks (14/06/2017) has not yielded the desired results to date. (Approximately 7 months). Bettapod lacks planning, integrity, communication s****s, professionalism and commitment to its clients which is paramount to its survival. Bettapod has reneged on its contractual obligations, forcing the client to complete the project at excessive cost. Bettapod's approach is to under quote to attract clients and when cash strapped suddendly presents a Variation Order to elicit extra money. We must stress that all our financial contractual requirements was honoured. Bettapod has no "Financial Capacity" to complete any project and pay their sub-contractors. We are assisting these sub-contractors in pursuing claims against Bettapod at the Small Claims Court! We are still awaiting signed progress certificates (which is NOT an invoice) and vital Signed and Approved Plans. The NHBRC has a dossier on Bettapod's "Unethical and Unprofessional Behaviour". Renaldo Nortje has to date (05/02/2018) defied the NHBRC's remedial agreement to redress all outstanding issues. His deadline was the 14/02/2018 and no redress to date. Overwhelming evidence is available to support our complaints and he is invited to challenge the facts at the NHBRC or legally, as we are proceeding with legal recourse to instruct Bettapod to fulfil its contractual requirements. There must be consequences for Bettapod's violations of its agreement and NHBRC's Code of Conduct and Ethics. Bettapod's repugnant behaviour is tarnishing the building industry's image. The NHBRC must protect the general public and the building industry at large!!! Bettapod's behaviour and Modus Operandi will lead to its demise. All complainants must pursue the suspension or cancellation of Bettapod's building license in the public's interest.

We contracted bettapod to build a wooden granny flat which was to take between 3-4 four weeks according to the agent aswell the website. We paid the deposit in July and we nearing the 6 month mark now and the house and my garden is a mess. Iv taken dated photographs after the few times the builders were on site and they have only been to my property 15 times in six months. Do not use this company as it’s an endless struggle from day one. Legal action will be the next step of this whirlwind journey (the builders are great just the owner of betta pod is sitting on our money and not sending the materials needed to finish the job)

We were looking for a company or individual who would be able to assist us with a cottage for our parents in a short space of time. Our father is in a wheelchair and we were trying to prevent any further disruption in his life. We were sold a service by the sales person of Bettapod on the basis that our cottage would be built in 8 weeks. He also advised that we would not have to do anything. They would get plans approved, prepare the site, build, do finish touches all in 8 weeks. First two weeks went well, site was prepared, foundation was thrown. The builders went up to roof height then it seemed to a come to a stop. When the sales person was questioned regarding the delays,he said they needed more money. We deposited a further R83750 into their account. The contractors were in limbo for a few days, till Wednesday. Eventually timber was delivered for roof trusses. Roof trusses went up by end of the week. Following week roof was installed, only because we supplied the tiles. We had complaints regarding the workmanship. Sent photos to the salesman who took four days before making an appearance to hear our complaints. Salesman placed blame on foreman, saying he was not ordering necessary material to continue with the contract. Labourer s were on site for a week with no materials. We were also unable to get hold of the salesman. We also tried to get hold of their office but no reply. Eventually we sentf an email to the office asking them to contact us regarding the contract. Angelique from their offices contacted me. However, she could not assist and would get the owner to contact us. After numerous messages he eventually contacted us. He was full of excuses and said he would get the salesman to contact us. He also said we were lucky to be as far as we were. Salesman contacted us and promised to have a delivery of materials and his team back on sote the following monday. Monday came and went eith no deliveries and no work. Owner was not interested in assisting us. The salesman then contacted us again after numerous messages were sent. He then told us the company had no fund to carry on at our site and that they were waiting for payment s from other customers or from us. They have already received R183750 from us and we are no where near finished. What a bunch of scamsters. Stay away from this company as you will not get value for money only empty promises and threats as well as an unfinished building. What a let down

Had high hopes for this company and delivering to the promises, but unfortunately was only lead to a great disappointment. Saved up to have a 2 bedroom flat built and all was going according to "plan". That is until the empty promises started drying up and confronting management with no service delivery and a half built flat standing . Amount of R 360 000 paid up but yet no service received for almost a month now. And don't try to take it up with the business owner, because he will just tell you to f*ck off...and he gets to keep the money as well?? Mmm so much for relying on "professionalism". For anyone out there ever thinking of using this company...if you are really up for bad performance, a lot of lies, damage to your current property, usage of your own utilities also damaged, countless messages with no value, and not even once get n phone call to provide update status to the client because you have to beg for it the whole time...well then this is the place to go to as you are really in for a treat. Score = -5 / 5

I would like to take this opportunity to warn potential customers about this so called building contractors Bettapod Pty Ltd that builds Granny Flats. Please be warned you are in for a ride of your life! The owner of this business came to see us and said that they need to buy and pay for all the building material before the building material prices go up. We trusted them with the granny flat in our yard, we were promised that this will be a 3 month project (we are now entering our 9th month) of fighting and pleading with them to come and finish the job. If you call to get un update the owner will swear at you and hung up on the call. We paid them all the money on time every time they asked for money. We now sit with the flat in our garden without water or electricity, and they are just not getting back to us. My garden is one big mess with building rubble that was just left behind. Please think twice if you are considering this company to build you granny flat, as this has been one big headache from the beginning!
