To whom it may concern! I recently bought a second hand road bike for myself to start with the sport. My first order of business was to take it to Bruce Reyneke Cycles as they are a well reputed name in the industry for many years. Up to this point they have also been very helpful with advice and excellent prices on the kit I needed to start out with. I booked my bike in at the Lynnwood, Hatfield shop for a major service so as to get peace of mind that everything will be in order once I start to put on some mileage on the bike. One week later I received my bike back and was disgusted from the word go at the utter carelessness with which my bike was handled. The rear tube was torn and the tyre was not even properly fitted on to the rim with most of the tyre bead still on the outside of the rim. The tube in question was also a brand new Continental tube bought from the shop and fitted prior to sending the bike to the shop for service. On closer inspection the front and rear derailleur cables were replaced, but the gears were never indexed again so as to function properly again. I am still waiting, another week later to hear from Bruce himself about the incident. Is your bike not supposed to be ready to ride after you sent it to be serviced?! I don’t have a very expensive bike to start with, but is that any reason to handle my bike this way?! I still pay the same price as the guy with the R80 000 Giant sent for service, or does he get better service than I do because my Raleigh is not deemed as a proper bike in your eyes?!
