Avoid Cameratek at All Costs!
I had the misfortune of renting from Cameratek, and it was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had with a rental company. Here’s a breakdown of what went wrong:
Unreliable Equipment I rented a camera and a few lenses for an important shoot, but the gear was in terrible shape. The camera had issues with focusing, and one of the lenses had noticeable scratches, which ruined several of my shots. Clearly, their equipment isn’t maintained properly, and when I brought it to their attention, they brushed it off as “normal wear and tear.”
Customer Service is a Joke The staff was indifferent and unhelpful. When I tried to explain the problems with the equipment, they acted like I was the problem. No apology, no offer to make things right, just an attitude of “too bad, deal with it.”
Overpriced for What You Get For the state of their equipment, I would expect their rates to be lower, but no—they charge a premium price for substandard gear. There are plenty of other rental companies that offer better gear at more reasonable prices.
Unclear Policies The return process was confusing, with hidden fees that weren’t mentioned upfront. They hit me with unexpected charges for what they called “minor damages,” which I didn’t cause. It felt like a ****.
Final Thoughts If you value your time, money, and sanity, do yourself a favor and avoid Cameratek. There are much better options out there that offer reliable gear and professional customer service. Cameratek was a total disappointment from start to finish.
