We took a child(2 months old) to Sunninghill hospital for a heart surgery. The operation was successful and the child was in ICU for 2 weeks. During this 2 weeks the mother was booked at a nearby hotel and was only allowed to see the child 1 hour a day (between 15:00 - 16:00pm) and she was also not allowrd to touch the child, carry and change his nappy. She would constantly enquire on the child's progress, how often do the bath him and change his nappy and she was assured all is well. Yesterday the child was discharged and since then he has been crying constantly. When the mother ther got home, she changed the child nappy only to discover that the child had severe nappy rash and and u hole on his *****. When the child pees, the pee comes out on both the ***** and the whole. She then called to enquire why were they then discharged with the child in this condition and why was she not told. She was told to call back later as the doctor was not available. Later when she called back, she was told that the Doctor has said that he only dealt with the child heart, nothing else on his body and he knows not what happened to the child *****. They claim the pipe that the baby used to pee when he was kn the ICU was directly at the fore front of the baby's *****. The mother then took thr child foor check up at the Lesedi private hospital(means more funds deducted from the medical aid) and was told that the hole/wound is severe and bad amd that the child had to be stitched from the inside but that can only be done on Monday as a it first needs to be examined by a Radiologist. Our concern is that the child seems to be in pain because he has been crying since they returned ans refuses to even take his bottle. The hospital won't take responsibility, whatsoever for this mess and claim that the child could have been born this way, which is NOT true because this child was just fine at birth. We need this hospital, the nurse that was taking care of this child to TAKE responsibility for this mess because now we are concerned about the childs wellbeing.
