I was very happy with my bank until now. After 18 years as a good banking customer of Citizens bank in Rhode Island, USA, they wrote to me over the Christmas holidays to tell me they were closing all my accounts in 10 days including my business and checking accounts. I didn't get the letter because I was travelling and the next thing I knew my ATM card didn't work and I was cut off with no access to my money. They refuse to give me a reason and if you try and get any help or make sense of it there is a stone wall response from every one in the bank that they don't have to tell me why and the reason is not available at their level. It's not as though my accounts have been badly managed they are very well managed and solvent and never once did anyone tell me their was a pending problem. I am a law abiding citizen, pay all my taxes, have FBI and Interpol police clearance and can't imagine what is wrong in their eyes. After 18 years without any discussions they just pulled the plug and left me high and dry with no access to my cash and no way to get cash from an ATM machine. What's worse is I am out of country on a project delivery and can't even get back to go see another bank. This has caused chaos and havoc when I am not in a good position to attend to the administration or travel back right now. All they can say is sorry but the policy is the policy the bank can terminate any account at any time and don't have to give any reasons. Not even an attempt to work out some arrangement. I'm totally disappointed and stranded and it would have been much better if they called me or emailed me to discuss the matter after all the profit they have made from my accounts over the years. What sort of customer service is this? I am not bad mouthing the many excellent members of staff at the branches and the call centers who have excellent manners and give great service. The bank has been very good to me for many years which is why I'm totally stunned by the latest episode. Lesson learned: don't rely on one checking account from now on and don't trust this bank. Read the small print. It's extremely difficult to get a meaningful understanding and reach the person or department that made the decision as it would be nice to discuss why and try and resolve any misunderstandings. HAPPY NEW YEAR eesh what a bad start to 2019. How can I wave a magic and and reverse this?
