I bought a bus ticket on the 9th of January 2021. I arrived at the boarding location around 14h10 for a bus that was scheduled to depart at 14h30. When I arrived, there was a commotion between taxi and bus drivers and the bus driver told me that the bus was full and I should go to the taxi in which case I protested since I had a ticket.
I picked-up from the ensuing commotion that the taxi drivers demanded that the bus shouldn't load more than 42 passengers as stipulated by Government due to COVID-19 and they demanded that those who don't have bus tickets must be taken out. Though this was not my problem, my concern was how then the passengers without bus tickets were let into the bus while some of us who had bus tickets were told that the bus is full. I didn't raise this concern at the time but observed the proceedings.
The bus driver instructed us to wait while they were sorting out the matter with the taxi drivers. The matter was sorted after the bus drivers let off people in excess of 42 particularly those that didn't have tickets. We were then let in and managed to find a seat.
The problem: When the taxi driver had left the bus, the bus driver insulted the taxi drivers calling them "DOM-KOPS". I protested and told him NOT to insult our brothers since he(bus driver) was at fault for overloading and put people without tickets while some of us with tickets were left outside.
The bus driver was enraged, became rude and threatened me in full hearing of other passengers that he was going to teach me a lesson and leave me at Kokstad. He said a whole lot of disgusting words and said I was spying for the taxis and posing a threat to their safety. These threats and labelling me with disgusting words went on from Matatiele to Kokstad. This caused a lot of emotional distress and made my trip a leaving hell in your CITY ot CITY bus.
He discriminated against me when he refused to spray my hands with sanitize like the rest of the passengers.
The police station: When the bus finally arrived at Kokstad, he then dragged me to Kokstad police station to have me arrested. He(bus driver) lied to the police by saying I threatened to call taxi drivers and tell them that he called them "DOM-KOPS". 3 police officers heard both of us and didn't find anything that warranted my arrest and didn't find me a threat. We both left our names, contact details, and address at the police station. The officers suggested to him(bus driver) to arrange security for their comfort and journey.
The transfer: When we arrived at the bus depot not far from the Kokstad police station, he transferred me to another bus where I had a peaceful journey far from his insults.
