I hope you’re well. I’m reaching out to raise serious concern about how my contract was handled at Curve Gear.
During my 3-month probation as a Floor Leader, I reported workplace bullying by Tumelo Moloi and Mikie Motaung, including gossiping, emotional abuse, and Tumelo invading my privacy by going through my phone. I escalated this to Evette Buitendag, who promised a meeting to resolve the issue — but that meeting never happened.
Then on Friday, 4th July, I was shouted at by Evette in the store group chat in front of everyone. It was over a video I didn’t know I had to shoot when Scentology came to change the diffuser. I immediately apologized and explained it was the first time I had seen it happen since starting work, but Evette still intimidated me publicly, asking me “Who are you working for?” in front of the team. That experience was humiliating and uncalled for.
On Thursday, 3rd July, I was told by Gundo that I’d be signing a contract extension. However, on Monday, 7th July, while I was off, the owner’s mother visited the store. Shortly after that visit, I was informed my contract was terminated — no formal explanation, no hearing. Meanwhile, the individuals I reported are still working there.
I strongly believe this is a case of unfair dismissal, possibly even victimisation and emotional abuse for speaking up. I am taking this matter to the CCMA and I will be requesting: • Reinstatement in my position as Floor Leader • Investigation and action against the bullying I experienced • Disciplinary action against Evette for public humiliation and unprofessional conduct • Protection from further victimisation in the workplace
I have already drafted a formal referral letter and will attach it with my CCMA submission.
