We spent a night there and the next morning our car had been broken into. The car was parked in a closed off car park with a closed gate etc. I know these things happen and I know it was not the Guests houses fault. But we were due to stay there two days later. After taking my car in to be fixed and find out all the damages etc. I had to leave my car at Suzuki for it to be fixed as I was running out of time before going overseas. So, I had to cancel with de Oude Meul. I thought they would be completely understanding as I had no car to get to them, I could not drive to them as I had no car to drive to them. I ask them to give me a full refund as I had to have my car fixed and I could not get to them. I did cancel with 24 hours' notice as well They were not willing to help they wanted to give me a full credit to use in the future which does not help me as I will only be back in about 2 years. so, they offered me 50%. This does not help me either as I am out of pocked over R4000 from the damages to the car. I did not sign any cancellation terms and conditions and no cancelation policy was explained to me. When I did the booking, I was told to pay immediately and to make sure the money reflected immediately which also cost me money. I was told this because there was a waiting list for my room, well so much for waiting list as they could not re sell my room. I found them unhelpful and very un-friendly not interested or understanding that I could not get to them. I had to even cancel my plans that night with family as well that I was meant to meet up with. I would just also like to add on top of this. when we had breakfast the staff was very unfriendly. We only had a choice of a few things as part of breakfast which is great but there was loadshedding so we could not select most of it. When we asked for coffee, we were told sorry no coffee we have loadshedding so, so much for the breakfast included that I paid for we could not have much at all. there was no advanced warning about loading and what can be served and what can't be served. The rooms are nice, and a nice size and I like the old Funiture, but the Funiture is old and very very dirty the chair in our rooms was so dirty it was sticky, and I did not want to put anything on it. The place needs a good clean. it is also very noisy as yes; it is very central but if you don't want noise 24/7 don't stay there. I was told that no other guest house would refund us in full which is wrong a few weeks before that I booked at a different guest house, I had to cancel the one night because of work commitments and they kindly said no problem and refunded me. I tried to book them again, but they were full that is why I booked at de Oude. This other guest house also warned me about loadshedding when I booked to make sure I was ok with it. Overall experience was not nice at all, It was my daughter's graduation the morning of the break in which was not the best for us but we got through it, just really though management would be more understanding and really help me with my refund. I don't think refunding me is going to make the bankrupt. Regards

I am a supplier of De Oude Meul and deal with the owner Arno, i warn all suppliers against him as he doesn't pay his accounts even after i set up a payment plan for him. He constantly ignores my calls and blatantly lies. People like this and do not honour their word should not own their own business. If he is like this to his suppliers, i would hate to think how he is to his customers!

I stayed at this B&B for two nights. Almost R900 per night. The breakfast is served at the coffee shop next door. (Included in the price) on Sunday morning I went down for breakfast at 9:30 only to find the shop closed. I spent R200 to go have breakfast at M&B. When I asked one of the staff later that day ( there was no one at the B&B in the morning to assist) , I was told that breakfast is only served between 8-9 on Sunday's. That was not communicated to me at all and I suggested that I should be compensated or discounted. The owner let me know via the receptionist that I should have read the information booklet ( with emergency numbers, local sites etc) in the room. I find that unacceptable. Very overpriced for poor facilities and attitude.
