I went to both branches and bought quite a bit of their stuff. Both times I wanted to pay with 100 Rand notes of the former version. Both times it was rejected! I asked them for a reason as I never had that problem anywhere else before. I was told that the money would be old. So I informed them that this is legal tender money from South Africa and that it is as valid as the current Mandela notes. They insisted that the money would be old and I was not able to pay with it. As owner or manager of the Visfabriek shops I would inform myself first before I reject money from customers. How inconvenient it was for me to do the shopping and at the till I heard that the money would be old and not accepted. For the information of the Visfabriek shops: all former South African bank notes are still legal tender. The only note which is not accepted anymore is the first issue of the R200 note. This note is also legal tender but must be exchanged at the bank. All other versions as well as the Mandela ones are legal currency.
