Discoverer maternity residents

I would like to thank the discoverer maternity residents both day and night shift,On the 03/01/2025 i gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. The staff was professional and caring i wont lie not even a single nurse had an attitude or use hurtful words. The were all nice they know their job and they inform you what medication they gonna give your baby. After giving birth they alert your family member or love once to bring you something to eat.Lots and lots of thanks to the discoverer maternity residents keep up the wonderful work.👏👏

Psych patient unattended

A psychiatrist was meant to call me back urgently as I have serious mental health issues...it has been 2 weeks no call and I am battling and they promised, I am 27 years of age and have been experiencing no feedback from government hospitals, clinics MY WHOLE LIFE with no care, no follow up or treatment n I pleaded for them to help me the nurse promised as I was in tears n afraid to go back home...their number doesn't even work. I am not blaming anyone but if I take my life simply because I am struggling n they don't even call me what must happen? this depresses me even more. so basically if we can't afford health care basically we are going to die? This is exactly why I don't even vote.

Absolutely horrific

I don't know if I will be able to clearly articulate the horrific experience I had in the maturnity ward. I know that Discoverers is a government facility but I read a few good reviews and thought my experience would be similar. Unfortunately I was dead wrong. As soon as I entered the ward I was given an unprofessional attitude. Instead of assisting me at my time of arrival which was 06:20, the nurses waited for shift change so that the incoming nurses would admit me. The incoming nurses only assisted me at 07:35 and told me they were doing me a favour bcoz the previous nurses left me on purpose. From then on it was hell on earth. I informed the nurses that I had a running tummy and was vomiting, none of that was attended to. Three hours later I told them I was feeling weak, and they started ganging up on me, telling me I was not the only patient and that they were short staffed. During labour I was slapped on the back and thighs multiple times and insulted about the size of my private parts. After delivery the insults continued and I was told that they have no fear being reported because they had witnesses that the patient (myself) was difficult. I regret ever entering those doors and was overjoyed when I was discharged later that day. I don't wish this treatment on my worst enemy. Giving birth is hard on the body, no need to add verbal abuse.

TERRIBLE "Professionals"

-Facility is clean + well kept -Well equipped -Has just about everything you'll need for birthing (low risk) The only thing that makes this place feel public and "poor" is some of the Midwives' and Nurses' attitude towards the patients (some of the Black African Sr's @ the maternity section), there seems to be a significant lack of BASIC emotional intelligence... They don't know what people are and don't know how to communicate. If you "don't have the whole day" for your patients, why tf are you working at a place where it's imperative for you to HAVE the whole day? Why not find yourself a different job/paycheck?? When I was in active labour, I couldn't move much or talk much and so I phoned my mom to inform one of the SRs that my water broke since she was sitting close to the reception area (I was in the labour ward)... I guess that seemed to **** them off, apparently I was supposed to ask/send one of the patients I shared the room with instead of my mom, mind you, those patients were also in labour dealing with their own pain... One of the midwives then came by the door and called me to the front... I had to get up, walk all the way, IN PAIN, and explain myself AT THE RECEPTION, IN FRONT of other patients and SRs. The way they spoke to me made me feel the need to apologize for sending my mom. They went on to tell me that this isn't a private facility (as if I was blind when I came to the damn clinic) and so I shouldn't expect special treatment (lol). Later on at night, a group of them came to the postnatal section and bullied me (verbally) into getting more blankets for my baby... Baby had a terrible heat rash the following day. Honestly, whoever's in charge of hiring and managing the staff there needs to be reviewed coz it seems they've made a blunder hiring "professionals" who lack compassion and basic EI. Went back for proof of birth a few days later since they didn't give it: and the same people kept throwing their weight around, the power struggle is real over there. Do what you gotta do and get the hell out of there.

DISGUSTED with Discoverers Community Health Centre

DO NOT GO THERE! GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!! DISCOVERERS COMMUNITY HOSPITAL is THE WORST hospital in South Africa!!! Security staff lock the doors to the ER. Security denies you access to the property if you don't let them search your vehicle. Medical staff call security on you when you have a complaint. All staff (medical & other) are disrespectful & arrogant to patients & family/primary carer. The people above who compliment this hospital are either Internet trolls or they are delusional. I'll never go back there again!

Bad health services

In February 2022 I was here for my annual blood test. Today I asked to see my results as this is my first visit after the tests were done. I was told that I did not the the tests and that there is no proof that I was here in February. I told them to check the signing in book where they take details of patients. They refused to this. It is really an inconvenience and a waste of time. No one is owning up or taking responsibility or apologizing because at this place the patient is always wrong.

Ruthlessness and unprofessional Doctor and sister

I'm so disappointed with the Dr and sister at the dentist department in florida Discoverer Community Centre that were on duty on the 9 May 2022.I don't even know their names because did not introduce themselves before examining my child. Ruthlessness, disrespectful, unprofessional and heartless Dr and sister I have ever came across. I didn't even get hp because Dr after examining my child just took out that big injection without explaining to my child what's going to happen and she started crying because she was traumatized and I was told to hold her or get out of their room. The Doctor was so impatient and started pushing me out of the room and that time I'm carrying a two months baby and she's with a sister but was told that it is my duty to hold my old child for them to inject and take out the teeth. We callee the matron for help because they refused with their name and didn't come and Dr called security for me and I was even harrassed by the security . What a day that my child was crying helpless seeing those people were treating me.
