I recently went overseas for two months,,entrusting the safety of my home to the DISTRICT WATCH who I have paid expensive fees for a number of years. Unbeknownst to me, I had a power outage at my home one week into my trip. My alarm service accordingly was shut down, as was my entire house. I was never informed, loosing thousands in frozen food in my refrigerator/freezer, as well as some of my electrical equipment. My car was on a “trickle charger” which, when the electricity went off, the current reverses and the new battery seized and could not be recharged. The first thing I did on my return was to cancel District Watch. I kindly requested that a supervisor call me- THEY NEVER DID. Had someone had so much as the courtesy to respect my request, this review would not have been necessary., If you think your house is safe when your away SND pay for the “service” (sic) of DISTRICT WATCH, think again. Imagine if my home was broken into! Watch the excuses they would come up with. BUYER BEWARE. While the owners of DW can give all excuses for the above, I can merely discuss my experience. At this point, the damage is done, I addressed my loss, and will not (now) talk to anyone from DUSTRICT WATCH.,

I heard a woman screaming for help. Unfortunately I didn't know where the sound was coming from. I walked into the back yard and fired 3 shots with my paintball marker, hoping it might frighten any attackers off. Then I gathered as many paintball markers and knives together, to help this woman. I didn't know that the sound came from our own backyard. I went to the house where I believed the sound was coming from. The person inside was scared (although he later told me he'd beat me up). He called district watch and 5 cars appeared. Many of their young and arrogant officers, repeatedly told me that they'd beat me up. I ended up in my underpants, sitting in this guys driveway, while constantly being threatened. Easy, isn't it, when you have "firearms (tasers, etc)" at your side and a bullet proof vest on (I only had underpants). The woman was now silent, dead, unconscious, etc No-one investigated that. They felt brave and since they were overpowering in charge, thought themselves heroes. The police took me home, showing a thousand times more respect than them. After this I had to discover that my female friend had almost drowned in the pool. The walls, vibracrete boundry walls, played a cruel trick. Question: who investigated this??? Question: were you more concerned about having a tough image, stroking your ego, than someone's life I'll take on anyone of them, if they want (I don't), but in Hennie's karate club, one at a time, no advantages. Hennie will be in control. Rather a stupid exercise, but if need be, ok

So speaking as an somone who works in a premises protected by district watch, they like to stand around our shop and smoke close to the entrance. Most of the times they are understanding and will move when asked. The problem is that they will be back the next day doing the exact same thing. This is actually a crime in South Africa. Why do I care? It affects my health and the health of our customers some of whom are children. I would implore district watch to obey the law. Today they were again smoking outside and when I asked them politely to just move away from the entrance, not only were they snarky and rude, but they resorted to mocking me sarcastically. Is this the type of behavior you want around your premises? I would not recommend them.

I selected District Watch as my preferred Armed Response / private residential security service provider many years ago and am still a happy client. Ethical CEO, management team and admin dept as well as all armed responders. Armed responders are well trained and company is always very responsive and go out of their way to add value for our neighbourhood with tasks which are over and above their mandate ie assisting with lost pets, changing flat tyres for clients, jump starting cars etc. Competent, courteous approach and effective in reducing crime. I will happily recommend them as the best of the 4 main AR companies providing this service in Panorama, Welgelegen, Plattekloof & Kleinbosch area. #BLACKFRIDAY

When us as individuals, conclude agreements with private companies to render monitoring and armed response services, what we are seeking in effect is protection from criminals. The monitoring and response provided by District Watch through the control room, failed to meet the standards of a reasonable security company. On 11 Jan 23, my house alarm triggered and I was not home. On arrival, I noticed the alarm going off and disarmed the sound and waited for a call from the control centre, whilst pulling my vehicle into the yard. After 15 minutes there was no call and I decided to call the district watch control centre. The consultant advised that they did not pick up any alarm triggers and later advised that the reason for this was that our armed response service was canceled a while back, which was shocking as we didn't cancel our payments or their services and monies were being deducted as per normal. Their radio link is still on our premises and few weeks back their sales agent was on our premises to quote on an upgrade to our system. During all this time we thought we were under the protective services of our alarm company. These cumulative shortcomings point towards a breach of contract by District Watch. After much discussion with the call centre, they decided to activate our system, until they could figure out why it was deactivated in the first place, without our consent. The issue with this was that they could only activate it after midnight and should we face a real threat before midnight, we would have to call in for support. With loadshedding at its highest and breakins being frequented in the area, we feel unsafe and now to face these irregularities from a security company is unacceptable. This should be an eye opener to security companies that if they don’t provide an effective service, and there is a break-in, they could find a court holding that they are in breach of contract with their clients. And that, in turn, could lead to serious claims for damages. I have requested feedback from DW regarding the cancelation and was told they will come back to me. It's now been 2 days since my request and to date have not received a call. I look forward to hear from DW

We are subscribed to a rather useless security service here in Cape Town, https://www.facebook.com/districtgroupsa/. We upgraded our alarm system a few months ago, at quite a ridiculously expensive price. Apparently the alarm is supposed to send a auto test message to their control room every seven days. This was not working, and after we were alerted to this fact by them, our frustrations started. - The control room take ages to respond to alarm signals - They recommended a new radio unit to us because of the above delay, but expect us to pay for it! - Their managers are never available to assist with queries. - We pay a substantial amount in monitoring fees monthly, and I don’t think it’s worth your while. A security company is supposed to be a buffer between you and the police in terms of responding to customers, but don’t bet on this pathetic company. Even the police responds better than they. Service companies sometimes run surveys asking if you would recommend them to friends and family after an interaction: if this should happen with them I would rate them a zero and not recommend them to my enemy even! Our sales experience with upgrading the alarm was equally disappointing. They are like vultures, wanting to squeeze every last sent out of you with their recommendations and prices! Please just quit this Industry because you are beyond pathetic!

I've been living in Burgundy Estate for over 3 years now and if I had the option of choosing a security company I would not recommend these guys. One of them knocked on my door this morning to respond to a noise complaint. I had been sitting in my home office working all morning (definitely no noise here) but they would not tell me what the complaint was and who it was coming from. I even tried their admin line to make sense of this complaint or at least get specifics (was it music, loud tv?) but they wouldn't share that info which leads me to believe there wasn't any complaint. This is borderline harassment. Secondly, this all happened around midday and I fail to understand why they sent out a person to attend to this alleged complaint in the first place. I'm a person who believes in integrity and I have not seen any from this company, maybe someone needs to prove me wrong.
