While the prices this moving company offers are certainly affordable, the service we received in 2024 was far from acceptable. From the beginning, we requested clear communication about the exact moving date for our relocation from Cape Town to Durban. We were told the truck would arrive either Sunday or Monday, but despite multiple follow-ups, we only received final confirmation for a Monday collection during our last week in Cape Town - hardly reassuring for such a major move. On the agreed Monday, we received a call informing us they might be late due to multiple other deliveries. We were understanding - delays happen - and told them we were even happy for an after-hours pickup, as long as it happened that day. However, the situation spiralled. They never arrived, citing a broken truck, and we had to scramble to rearrange all our plans to accommodate a Tuesday collection. Making matters worse, someone from their operations team falsely told us they were trying to arrange a smaller truck, which never materialised. When our belongings were finally delivered, several items - including ones clearly marked as FRAGILE - were damaged. We expected the usual scratches and wear that can happen during a move, but the level of carelessness was unacceptable. Our bed base, a solid table base, and a number of other pieces were clearly mishandled, some appearing to have been forced into the truck without regard. Among the damaged and mishandled items: - Microwave door no longer closed properly - Bed base broken (modular open storage - items appear to have been shoved inside or against it) - Bedside cabinet broken (pressure snapped off a piece of wood on the top) - Medium pot plant cracked (either dropped or had something shoved against it). If you choose this company, you might save some money upfront - but you’ll likely pay for it in stress, disrupted plans, extra cleaning costs, and damaged furniture. We won’t be using them again.

At first they seemed nice, affordable and friendly. It all came crashing down 2 days before the move date. Everything was planned and packed to a t from our side, as it was an interprovincial move that had to happen on the booked date. On the day that we were supposed to move, they tell us that the driver has some issue and he can't do the move. Debbie says she can't help so I phone the driver directly. He gives me excuse after excuse as I find a solution for each. They could not give me a legitimate reason why the move couldn't happen on the planned date. When they finally came 2 days after the planned date, I showed them exactly what to load and what to leave. They ended up putting some of the landlord's stuff in the truck even though we put it aside and specifically asked them to leave it. Fast forward a couple of days - we are unloading our things. They have managed to bend the hinges on an almost indestructible microwave. Surfboards are chipped. Solid wooden bed is broken. Desk is broken. Bicycles that were bubble wrapped somehow came undone and are now scratched. That is only the start of it. I have forgotten most of what they broke as it was a year ago and we had to throw most of it directly into the trash. In hindsight, we should have gone with a professional company, even if it costs a bit more. Replacing everything they broke probably cost just as much, let alone not knowing what date they would do the load and unload.

The worst moving experience ever- they alleged that there were “extra items,” for which I was overcharged almost double what was quoted- inflated and unacceptable. They also placed my goods in storage to ****** more money out of me and in addition, wrote on my furniture and goods in permanent marker! And, to top it all, many items were missing, including all my pot plants, a sideboard and ladder. Awful experience- DO NOT recommend

We have received terrible service from DLH Removals, who added extra charges of nearly R10k after they had taken our stuff and then took items off the truck before delivering some of the items to us; these are being held by them in storage until we pay (which we are refusing to be held to ransom by them). We have lodged this with the Ombudsman. It turned out that DLH aren't even a moving company and they use Intertrans to do the removals, so they are just a middle-man. DLH always report any poor scores to get them removed, so their score is inflated. I would avoid them and find a reputable moving company.

I have never felt compelled to write a review about a company before, but really need to warn consumers about the utterly appalling “service” from DLH. First of all, DLH are not a removal company, they are just a 1 man band intermediary, they use a company called Intertrans, so when something goes wrong, she blames them and they stay silent as they do a lot of business with DLH and don’t want to rock the boat. A few days prior to the arranged date for collection, I sent a full and final list of items and there were additional items. We agreed that the original items would be loaded first and then assess if any additional space was required – this would be discussed and a cost would be agreed up front and I would pay, before anything else was loaded. DLH do not do a survey of your property in advance and work on an estimation of space – having received their calculations as part of the dispute, DLH massively overestimate the volume of items – but more on that later! When the driver was supervising the load, he advised that we were well under the allocated space of 1150cft and suggested loading other items that I was going to drive over to CT from Durban. Throughout the day, he reassured us that there was no additional space required and there would be no additional cost. The inventory was signed by us and the driver, and the truck left. DLHs own contract states that a Jobcard is required to be signed for any additional costs, and this was not done, as we were told there was no need. The next day, after lunch, I got an invoice from DLH for nearly R10k extra! In addition, they had already offloaded the most expensive items from the truck, put them into storage and left for Cape Town. Despite agreeing in advance, and it being part of their own contract that additional space would only be used with written confirmation and payment in advance, Debbie is both refusing to deliver the items and is trying to charge storage fees. She is now also saying that the driver (who is actually an Operations Manager) was not able to assess the space required – despite that being his job, and ignoring that fact that she was in regular contact with him throughout the day. After much back and forth, I am getting nowhere, so referring this to the CGSO. Having been given the breakdown the cft allocated per item, it is 100% clear that DLH deliberately overstate the volume of items, including those of a standard size. Amazingly a 20L jerry can was charged at 53cft and a kids scooter at 50cft – this pattern continued and, after measuring a number of items, I only found 1 that matched the actual size and having checked main items, her “estimate” was nearly 500cft overstated. Intertrans did a decent job with the removals and delivery, but say their hands are tied… I would suggest going directly with them and avoid DLH.

Every negative review is reported by DLH to try and get them removed, and Debbie actually puts up **** reviews (still only giving herself 4 stars though!)

Avoid at all costs! You and your goods are in for a ROUGH ride! DLH was successful in disappointing at every turn. Debbie’s customer service leaves much to be desired. Should you make the unwise decision to go with DLH removals, make sure you get absolutely everything in writing! Debbie likes to quote one thing, and once you’ve been hooked there are numerous additional costs, that were somehow not included but you should have known they would crops up. She becomes aggressive and rude when you don’t agree with her seemingly random rules and regulation that change from mail to mail. Do yourself a favour and look else where!
