My consultation with Dr. Barnard was not just disappointing—it was disturbing. From the moment I sat down, I was spoken at, not spoken to. He launched into a cold, impersonal monologue about breast augmentation, as if I were a prop in his final performance. There was no warmth. No curiosity. No space for dialogue. It was clear: this wasn’t about me. It was about him. He interrupted me repeatedly, shut down my questions before I could finish them, and made it clear that patient input was not part of his process. When I asked—calmly and reasonably—about post-operative care, especially given his upcoming retirement, he didn’t answer. He didn’t reassure. He labeled me a “red flag” patient. For asking who would be responsible for my body after surgery. For daring to speak. That moment was so jarring, I left the room in disbelief. There was no physical exam. No review of my medical history. No discussion of goals, sizing, or options. I was not consulted—I was dismissed. And if this is how Dr. Barnard treats patients in a consultation, I shudder to think how he handles them in surgery. Frankly, I think it’s a relief he’s retiring. If this is the standard of care he’s been offering—silencing women, shaming them for asking questions, and refusing to engage with even basic empathy—then his departure from the field is long overdue. His behaviour wasn’t just unprofessional. It was dehumanising. To any colleague reading this: if you pride yourself on patient-centered care, this should make your skin crawl. And to any patient considering surgery: you deserve better. You deserve a surgeon who listens, who respects your voice, and who understands that your body is not his stage. This wasn’t a consultation. It was a neon-lit warning. If you value your voice, your dignity, or your safety—do not step into that room. His retirement isn’t just timely. It’s necessary. And it’s about damn time.

I had my first breast augmentation done in 2011, and was extremely happy with the results. Dr Jannie is kind and gentle and always gives good advice, and has a brilliant bedside manner. I decided to do another operation, and once again, I am extremely happy with the results. Dr Jannie has assisted me and went the extra mile in assisting me around dates (I currently live overseas). A few of my friends have also done procedures with Dr Jannie and are all satisfied. He is an artist, as a painter and as a surgeon. No one better.

I had the pleasure of undergoing a blepharoplasty procedure with Dr. Barnard 2 years ago, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From the initial consultation to the final follow-up, he demonstrated an outstanding level of professionalism, care, and expertise. The procedure itself was smooth and the recovery process was remarkably swift. Dr. Barnard’s skills are evident in the fantastic results - my eyes look rejuvenated, and I am thrilled with the natural, refreshed appearance. The results have exceeded my expectations, and I wish I had done it 10 years sooner! I have already referred two friends who both had fantastic results as well, and I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Barnard to anyone considering the procedure. Also important to mention that he is very honest and will advise you against procedures he doesn't feel are necessary. This is rare and hugely appreciated in a world where most plastic surgeons are motivated by money and try to upsell.

Terrible risk to use this doctor. I used him a number of years ago and only now realised that I really need to warn other people about him. When I went for my first consultation with him he was quite arrogant. At one point his cell phone rang, he looked at it, said it was his wife and I said I did not mind if he answered. I could hear the voice of the person talking on the other side and after a few seconds while the voice was still talking the doctor ended the call without saying anything. Then he put the phone down and said, "That's how it goes after thirty years of marriage". That should have warned me to run, but I was naive. I went for a upper blepharoplasty and inner thigh liposuction. During the procedure the doctor was talking to a nurse behind him and kept on with the liposcuction while looking behind him. He clearly moved from where he was supposed to suction to another area because it was incredibly painful. I started to groan at which point he looked back at what he was doing and I saw a look of shock on his face. This puzzled me and I wondered what was going on. He also spent less time on one side than the other, abruply ending the pocedure at that point. In the days and weeks that followed I felt very uncomfortable after the procedures. After a while I asked my husband to take a photo of my buttocks and then I could clearly see that Dr Barnard had suctioned a part of my lower buttocks away. This caused immense problems, my underwear pulled up permanently on the one side and I was never comfortable. When I lay on my back for a while I had bad back pain, which I never had before. This totally changed my life. I felt disabled. It cost me years to find a doctor in Sydney Australia who specialises in buttock reconstruction to fix this disability that was created. Also the eye surgery changed the shape of my natural eyes and all of a sudden I had problems keeping my eyes open and was told that it was ptosis. This cost me again to find a surgeon to fix this problem. I complained, but the doctor couldn't care less and pretty much did nothing to repay costs to me. He really is not worth the risk and he did not care in the least about damage done to me and my health.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Amazing, friendly, honest, knowledgeable. Explains well, and listens well. Gives advice on procedure required, and ensures you are 100% sure before committing. Human touch, not after money.

I am extremely happy and satisfied with my breast augmentation. The whole process from start ( choosing the sizing and asking questions) to finish has been a wonderful journey and I feel that that his work and ethics are of high standards. He has a very relaxed and down to earth bed size manner and I think at first I felt this was quite different from what I have experienced, but once he worked with me, it is so refreshing and his humour is so appreciated. I am happy to recommend him to anyone that needs any plastic surgery or reconstructive surgery, he is a talented and his work is totally amazing! You can really be yourself and he definitely knows what he is doing, so I asked lots of questions and was never afraid or hesitant. I enjoyed all the information and the fact that all my concerns were handled with care! Excellent job done as the proof is in the pudding!

He has done two other friends of mines breast augmentation almost 15 years ago and they still are incredibly happy. He is kind, straight down the line, direct and honest.
