My niece was recently told by the school that she cannot continue with pure Mathematics, even though she is a star student with a final average of 70%. This is not fair as the school is now making a decision about her future on her behalf.
My niece has plans of becoming a doctor one day and while Maths Literacy serves its purpose, not doing Pure Mathematics would limit her options when applying to universities and the careers she could pursue after school. Additionally, we live in the twenty-first century, where STEM subjects are critical for the world now. So, shouldn't we be encouraging learners to do Mathematics - especially if they are excelling at it?
I am very disappointed in Dr JJ Hoerskoel in Springs, and will not be referring them to anyone who wants their child to succeed.
