We booked with Dunkley House without anyone ever mentioning that there is absolutely no secure parking. You have to park in the street. No one mentioned that they happen to break into the cars on the street all the time. In the morning we found that our rented car window had been smashed out and that some items had been stolen from our car. The cost to replace the window was R2400. And this was the response from Dunkley House: Dear Yolandi Thank you for your mail received We sincerely apologise for the car smash and lost items. Please note, parking on Gordon street is street parking with street security not all for the property and the information about our parking is even on our website (I checked it twice, every tab and every page - NO MENTION OF THIS). We alert all our guests to remove all visible items from the car as we have beggar’s or street people passing by at every single moment and a glimpse of visible items attracts them to the car hence window smashing (Nope, no mention of this either). We have few of those cases whilst guests leave visible items in their vehicles. (This happens all the time, they do not care about you and your property as they have done nothing to fix the situation). We encourage reporting the matter to the police as they help out with affidavit to avoid paying damages to the vehicle. (Wow, thank you for this information, I never thought about that and this does not get you out of having to pay for damages - R2400 later just for the window, not even the items stolen from the car). We sincerely apologise for the incident. Kind regards Kc Manager Dunkley Guesthouse
