For years, Durban Parks Department has always shone above all other departments in their functioning and repairs. Four weeks ago, they cut down a large amount of timber from a tree on the turning circle on Leighorne Place, it can be seen from the photographs that since removing the timber and storing it against the wall and have not bothered to remove or collect it. All of the foliage ie. leaves have now washed off due to the recent rainfall and are now sitting in the drainage system which is not conducive to keeping the storm drain system clear of unnecessary debris. Storm drains are designed to dissipate and clear water from the rainfall off the roads and not to wash the foliage from the trees that have been cut and left. There is a hole where the bitumen road was removed to get to a water leak in front of number 19, it can now be seen that the driveway is cracking. this repair was done at least 2 months ago and is only due to our constant filling this with sand that vehicles are able to ride on it. Despite contacting the department numerous times to come back and fill the hole before the situation worsens, they have not made any attempt to do so. Is this what we pay Rates and Taxes on?? This is certainly not in line with any of the standards that were in place with the council previously. Furthermore, it would seem any area that is not visited by tourists is neglected completely and proof of this is Gordon Road, where a section was resurfaced probably about 9 years ago. In preparing the resurfacing the top surface was scoured to allow the new tar to bond, obviously to cut costs, the retarring was stopped halfway between Florida Road and Gordon Road leaving only the scouring, creating multiple potholes especially where speed bumps have been installed for the schools. It's time we as Durban Rate payers start to reduce our rates and not accept this level of apathy and substandard service that we are paying for.

My family called them as we were experiencing a power cut not knowing that out prepaid meter was outdated needing to be changed they sent a team who advised they don't deal with meters but will return to base and get the right guys to come which they never did, when called today I was advised they will only be available next week Tuesday which means we must be deprived of lights which is poor service meaning items required to be kept cool will get spoiled in the fridge and no cooking can be done, when asking how is the whole department let to go on holiday knowing they are an essential needs department i was not given a straight answer

It took the municipality 2 years to get a sewer blockage on my property cleared and pipes replaced. On receipt of a report from a private registered plumber I got in touch with the superintendent at the municipality who asked for the report, which I submitted. I was asked to wait until he got the go-ahead from the municipality, needless to say that that went on forever. When queried I was told that all documentation, paperwork, etc... was lost as they had major computer systems change-over. The blockage again occurred and 2 very kind and helpful gentleman from the municipality assisted me and finally got the repair work going. In all this time there was no word from the superintendent!! They dug up my yard end August/September last and fixed the problem. The dug up my yard and the trench was covered with sand - to date the municipality has not re-tarred that trench. Each time I contacted the superintendent he would either have his cellphone switched off, then I'd send text him only to be ignored. He would reply only when he would want to. He always gives me some hogwash - "waiting for an order no. from a "Zanele" which I was told he only received in December. Then it was a case of getting the contractor to come out and do the job, but low and behold the tar factory was now closed until the new year. The new year is in and still nothing from the superintendent nor the contractor. I see the roads department filling a pothole the size of a brick, what a waste of government time and material yet my yard is still waiting to be tarred. I also asked the DA for assistance which was absolutely a waste of time. They don't assist anyone but themselves yet want our votes when its election time. Is this the service we are supposed to receive???? Absolutely disgusted with the municipality and the DA. These people are only where they are for self-gain. The titles they have mean absolutely nothing- superintendent, call centre supervisor, etc....WHAT RUBBISH. I have a call log to this superintendent and the call centre together with all sms's. Still waiting from September to date!!!!!
