This Valentine’s Day reminded me of something very important: love is not about expensive gifts, fancy restaurants, or showing off. Love is about effort, thought, time, and creating beautiful memories together. This year, I didn’t have much money, but I still wanted to surprise my partner and make him feel special. I bought him a pair of shoes, beautiful flowers, and chocolates, and told him to dress up. He had no idea what I was planning and kept asking questions the whole way, curious and excited. We took the train together, and when the train arrived, I told him we were going to Fish Hoek. The joy on his face was priceless. When we arrived, we took pictures by the ocean, the boats, the mountains, and the breathtaking views. Everything about Fish Hoek felt peaceful and romantic — the perfect setting for a special day. We then stopped for fish and chips, and it was absolutely worth it. The food was warm, fresh, and delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, the chips were crispy, and the portion was satisfying. My partner truly enjoyed it, and seeing him happy made the entire day feel like a success. It was simple, but it was perfect. After that, we treated ourselves to ice cream in a cone before heading back home on the train to Elsies River. It was honestly one of the most beautiful Valentine’s Days I’ve ever had, because it reminded me that love is not about how much you spend — it’s about how much you care. I would definitely recommend Fish Hoek for anyone who wants a peaceful outing with a loved one. And I highly recommend stopping for fish and chips — it’s a perfect takeaway option where you can simply pop in and order fish and chips, steak and chips, chicken and chips, or even vegan options depending on what you enjoy. A beautiful experience, beautiful memories, and a reminder that real love is time, effort, and presence. Highly recommended.
