Listed as a 4* luxury lodge set in the mountains of Dullstroom instead we travelled past Dullstroom to a lodge that didn't have a proper road and not to be greeted by a representative of the lodge nor directions to the non existent office. The entrance to the communal area was filthy, no owner or manager in sight. The staff were apathetic. We had to carry our own lugguage into the rooms only to find a scorpion in mine which we had to kill and it remained on the curtains for our 4 day stay. It was never removed or cleaned. My friend had a dead rat in her living area that once again was never removed in 4 days. A health hazard or not? The bed linen was torn and not changed in 4 days, the towels were tattered and torn, the outdoor shower had me to thank for a good cleaning. The windows and furniture were dusty and needed cleaning. The bathroom didn't even have a mat so I used a towel instead. Definitely no shower caps in sight and non provided when I requested one. The staff's apathetic behaviour and unwillingness to assist us was overwhelming. We had to keep the fire going in the communal area as the staff didnt bother. Requested to speak to the owner who never bothered to check in with us considering we were the only guests there for the 1st 2 days. The food was substandard, frozen bread, burnt food and sour chicken breasts, no alcoholic beverages or ciders avail. The spa was closed and the wifi was unplugged at night. We left tired and hungry, slept on old beds and had the worst experience, expecting a 4* lodge which in my estimation was worse than a 1* star b/b in ****et. Contacted the marketplace regarding false advertising and was not surprised to discover that Forest Creek Lodge was no longer on their books and under investigation ... The owner Anita Nicols who contact me had no professional ethics and purported to not be aware of all the failings of her lodge yet she lives on the property...thankfully we took pictures that she reviewed without comment or refund,no scruples or commitment to service
