I had an extremely disappointing experience at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital, specifically with Dr Human’s practice (Floor 2, Cubicle 14). My appointment was arranged via Intercare, yet I never received the required pre-appointment form. Upon arrival, I was met with rudeness and a dismissive attitude from the receptionist, who later admitted she had spelled my surname incorrectly in the email. Rather than taking accountability or apologising, she spoke over me, blamed me, and maintained an unprofessional tone throughout. When I calmly asked her to speak respectfully, the situation escalated due to her continued attitude. Despite being early for my appointment, I was told it had been cancelled. I later learned through Intercare that Dr Human had refused to see me at all—without ever speaking to me directly or hearing my side of the incident. I submitted a formal complaint on 6 May 2025, which was acknowledged and marked for investigation. However, after more than 20 working days, I received only a defensive letter that dismissed the situation entirely and took no accountability for the poor conduct or the administrative error. No apology was offered, and no one followed up thereafter—despite further written communication from my side. I have no interest in seeing this doctor again, but I believe patients deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness. As it stands, this experience reflects poorly on both the practice and the hospital's management of complaints. Patients should not be denied care or spoken to disrespectfully, and hospitals should not ignore genuine efforts to resolve matters privately.

Best experience ever. Modern and excellent condition. Dr Oosthuizen my orthopaedic surgeon was absolutely great. The staff are wonderful, compassionate and so experienced. I applaud sis Wisdom that goes above and beyond her duties. She is well informed and very encouraging. What an amazing hospital stay. 🥰

I’m so upset with how the nursing staff treat their patients! My mother is in there right in high care and they are so rude! Won’t let her keep anything with her, sent her iPad home with me because “she needs to rest” and now I’ve just had a friend of mine tell me they are man handling her, being very rough and not interested in what she says?! What has this place come too?? She’s got Lupus, has just had a back operation and they sent her Chronic meds home too?? And then still had the nerve to tell me she’s taking them?! Do something about your high care staff asap! Its disgusting!!

I was admitted twice in that hospital, in the same ward for a shoulder operation. I lack words to describe the wonderful experience I had. From the security at the entrance, the admissions clerks, porters, radiology personnel, cleaners, catering, including Operating Theatre personnel, the Anaesthetist nurse and the Anaesthesiologist, they're just wonderful. The nurses in ward Surgical B treated me like I was a VIP guest. Their warm and positive attitude can make a patient better without even medication. I just spoke to my friend now who has been admitted in the same ward as we speak and she can't stop talking about those beautiful, friendly, caring souls (nurses) in that ward. It's pretty obvious that the hospital has invested much on customer service. Keep it up, Dr Strobos and Dr Munthree, one of the doctors who admitted me. Thank you to everyone.

From the moment I walk in everybody was very helpful from the check-in up to the nurses getting me settled in. When there was a delay in surgery someone informed and and explained in good time. The anesthetis was so nice and explained his prosedure to the T. All in all, should I need another prosedure this is where I will go

Here starts the beginning of a journey ... Let's see how Johannesburg Surgical Hospital on Beyer's Maude, responds and manages complaints. My first email was sent Sunday 3 November 2024, to request the Hospital Manager's details, in order to commence communications. Let's see how quickly it takes for them to respond. More to follow ...

Dr AJ Visser(jnr) Excellent as well these doctors were exceptionally good and Nazreen the physio she also made me feel cared for. NO COMMENT Dr S.Khan,no bedside manners always rushing does not respond to messages from her practice, or cares she is in the wrong profession she shoukd be in a beauty pagent and not with patients.

Today marks the second time in 2 months that my dearest family member had tk go in for a operation there. I AM TOTALLY DISGUSTED with every single time we went there. They pre book you without putting it on the system. Then they insist on a R10 000 prepaid before they biik you in, this is AFTER the so called communication from the medical aid. They almost operated on the wrong arm. They dont expect you at the ward. We are people with the need of medical care. IF IT IS SUCH an ADVANCED hospital it makes me think that it is to the benifit of the DOCTORS and no focus on the patient that needs to pay them. It is absolutely rediculous. I will not reccomend that place to anyone.
