I would like to question the star rating of 4 for: https://laorchard.co.za/image-gallery/.
I was travelling for business and checked in on Sunday 26/3/23 at around 19h45. I had specifically asked our booking agent to book a room with a balcony, but was taken to a room without a balcony (oversight from La Orchard Hotel). I was then taken to another room.
Monday 27/3/23, I had coffee in my room (Ricoffy sachets, no fresh milk, only Cremora). I could live with this as I was going to the breakfast room.
When I arrived in the breakfast room, there were 4 tables, but only 1 chair. When I asked where the other chairs are, I was told that guests normally sit outside. I was a bit taken aback, as I was expecting a colleague for breakfast. I then requested coffee, upon which they brought out Ricoffy sachets again with a teapot of boiling water. I asked for milk and was told they don’t serve fresh milk, only cremora – really, in this day and age!! I then told then I would give them money to go and buy fresh milk and they quickly ran to buy the milk at their expense.
Then horrors of all horrors, I was brought breakfast which consisted of a hard fried egg, 1 sausage, 2 chicken nuggets, 2 slices of normal brown bead toast, some cucumber and tomato. When asking for butter, they don’t serve butter!! I was not asked how I would like my eggs done, or explained what is on offer for breakfast. What if i was vegetarian? How does this establishment not tell clients what is available for breakfast?
I then asked to speak to the owner and was told he was out of town but they would get him to call me. I wanted to check out, but needed to enquire if they would refund us as our agency had paid upfront.
Upon my return that evening, I was told that the owner said no refund, and that he would call me.
I have yet to hear from the owner.
No bathroom matt was not placed in my bathroom for 3 consecutive nights, no toilet roll replaced. My 2-prong adaptor had also been removed from my room. This meant that I had to call reception from my mobile when there was no matt, or toilet paper or when I was looking for my charger (I was told that the cleaner must have removed it in error!). The cherry on top was when guests arrived and made noise until 23h30 that evening and I was woken up by the guests at 05h00 the next morning.
I checked out around 15h00 today 29/3/23, and have had to incur addtional costs.
The website of La Orchard Hotel is very misleading and, in my opinion, should be rated a 2 star.
There is not Spar or Restaurant at this facility as shown in the gallery on the website. The breakfast shown on the website is false advertising.
I would not recommend anybody stays at this establishment until the owner either changes the rating or lives up to what is advertised on the website.
I have also sent an email to Tourism Grading Council of South Africa on 29/3/23 and 31/3/23, no response to date.
