I was a guest at Le Franschhoek hotel and spa for 4 nights last week. I recommended the hotel to a friend of mine who is a tour operator from Switzerland. The first time I visited I got burgled 4 years ago.The security weren't good. My insurance paid our for losses incurred. Second time around i still recommended the hotel.I was utterly disgusted with the new management and the service beyond bad.The jacuzzi weren't working for the whole duration of our stay. The staff were not very helpful. The general manager was unfriendly when I brought everything to his attention. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone as I am well traveled being in the service and hospitality industry for 30 years.i have traveled extensively abroad for work. All I can say our experience was not good.

Le Franschoek Hotel and Spa. We are located in Gordons Bay so we took a lovely wander over Sir Lowrys Pass, through Grabouw, Elgin, over the Franschoek pass and landed up at what used to be the Swiss Farm Excelsior which we have both visited previously. A glorious setting with rolling lawns, a sparkling pool, trees covered with Autumn leaves, and live entertainment on call by lots of squirrels scurrying around. We sat outside, very elegant and sophisticated veranda area where we were the only guests. The prices were on the fairly high side but as a tourist with Euros, Pounds or Dollars, probably more affordable. We chose to share the Ribeye as we were assured it was enough for 2 (it was) and after a beer each, chose a bottle of red. Here's where things got sticky.....food arrived on a platter, husband asked whether either our plates could be hot or the platter with the meat and chips on should be hot. We were told the salad couldn't be on a hot platter (fair point but could you not serve it separately?) We mentioned this to our waitress, who said she had told the chef. We then asked for serving utensils, which never arrived, and dug our forks into the salad and chips with our used knives and forks (or hands!). It's not a problem sharing with my husband but not great if you are out with a friend. The salad was glorious with a superb lime chimichurri dressing, the chips were run-of-the-mill oven chips and the meat was so well done (does "chargrilled" mean tough as leather?) that we left quite a bit of it. Of course, it was cold too. Here comes the bit that really rattled my cage. The waitress appears to clear our plates, Mike is still chewing on his meat and sipping half a glass of red wine and the dear girl barks out " I will get your bill" (no, she was not going off shift). No offer of a dessert menu, coffee, nada. We paid, tipped her well (why I wonder) and left. Setting and ambience: 9/10 for serenity and beauty Food: 6/10 Recommend? No, not really as they were not at all open to valid requests, and showed it!

Booked a room using Booking.com but because of a technical glitch 4 rooms were booked and paid for. Both booking.com and the hotel refuse to assist with this matter as they say a third party- Hotelbeds made the reservation and therefore it can't cancelled. You would think that the hotel could assist with this ...seems not!!

I was forced to select one star to rate this place, if it was up to me, not one would be given. We arrived at the hotel on the 28th for coffee and scons. After we seatet ourselves, not a single waiter attended. The restaurant area was almost empty. I hence went to reception and asked to be helped. Another 10 min later a waiter arrived from who we ordered cappuccinos, but we were advised that the machine is broken. We ended up ordering filter coffee. After another 10 long mins, the coffee arrived, but with no milk. We then asked for milk, for which we waited another 15 min. Our waitress would pass us, and when enquireing as to the milk, we would only get a blank face. Having enought of this and a good 40 min wait, and still without milk, we went to reception and asked for the general manager - mr. Nel. We were informed that he was on his way. While waiting again another lady who was a guest at the hotel arrived at reception. On hearing our problem she uttered " pathetic, isn't it " and went off on how bad they as quests were treated and how pathetic the servis is. Needless to say, like the wait for the waiter, coffee and milk, Nel also never pitched. We came to the conclusion that the service was that bad because of bad management. Never again !!!!!!!

My wife And I arrived at Le Franschhoek a day after our wedding day (16th August), to enjoy our Honeymoon. Upon arrival, we noticed that there were a lot of small construction vehicles. Moments after checking in, we heard very loud drilling and hammering. We asked the staff if this was going to continue for our 5 days stay and they then told us yes. This would have been good to know weeks before we checked in. We wanted to spend most of our time relaxing after months of stressful wedding planning, only to have the next 5 days filled with construction noises. I usually never complain about stuff like this, but after paying over R17,500 (in advance) just to leave with a mild headache was completely unacceptable. A far warning would have been great. The Jacuzzi (as advertised) was never warm over our 5 days stay even upon requesting the temperature to be turned up. On our last day, it was flooded with the hose still on. There was also massive confusion regarding our "all-inclusive breakfast". Some days we paid for our coffee, where on other days we didn't. Again, please don't advertise incorrectly as this throws out your budget. The one aspect that gave me some sort of satisfaction is how friendly the staff were. Other than that, it was a pretty dismal stay.

We stayed at the villas. The villa itself was well equipped and I loved the cozy feel I love that we were not disturbed. I loved the peace and quiet, it was exactly what I needed.

We spent one evening at this boutique hotel, and we enjoyed ourselves very much. The occasion was my husband's birthday. We were greeted by the receptionist and she was wished as well, we also received a glass of apple juice as a warm welcome. Check in was swiftly done and we were shown to our room. Room and view from room was amazing facing the pool and mountains. Very serene. Our room had complimentary cupcakes and a stocked bar fridge. We made use of the jacuzzi and it was clean along with the rest of the resort. Our stay was impeccable. The only issue i think was the slight hostility we were greeted with at the buffet breakfast by the other hotel guests. They looked at us like we were in the wrong place. The hotel obviously have no control over their guests. Apart from that, we will definitely return for another stay.

The worst form of racism ever.. they didn’t allow us to use the reatuarant.. they told us we cannot order from the fine dining menu but we should eat pizzas.. we ordered food and we waitress at least 2 hours. Latichia is a receiptionist and she would just lie about the restaurant and food..if you are black don’t even attempt to go there..
