Expensive and impractical

I have had 3 of the Reidel tulip-shaped glasses ( originally designed for Pinot Noir but now conveniently rebranded as ideal for a gin and tonic) explode/disintegrate on me on different occasions. I have learnt to put the alcohol and mixer in first before adding ice but it makes no difference. There is clearly a flaw in the design, they were not designed to take ice in any quantity and when one adds too much ice, the thinner/weaker part of the glass just gives way. This shouldn't be happening with an expensive glass. I complained the first time at their store in Roggebaai, Cape Town and was told I must have done something wrong (the stoe is no longer there). The glasses were a gift from different people so I am not sure where they were bought but clearly there is a serious issue with them AVOID at all cost !
