I have a family member who is currently a patient at Livingstone Hospital. This family member has a life threatening condition and needs medicall care around the clock for any chance of revovery.
Today is the second day that no nursing staff pitched for night shift and the patients are left to their own devices and with no medical care. The entire ward was in darkness after the shift change as there was no staff for the entire night.
The dotors at the hospital are excellent, but without supportive medical staff their efforts are and always will be in vain.
In this instance as well as a previous admission to the same hospital, nurses are not following the treatment regime prescribed by the doctors and it appears that there is absolutely no compassion for the patients or any sense of responsibility.
The patient is severely dehydrated and was supposed to receive 3 iv drips today, but received only one. The patient is experiencing headaches, dizziness, low blood pressure and trouble urinating.
How is this acceptable service for any person in need of medical care? The appalling condition of the wards and the hospital in general will have to be rated separately as it will take me all night to list everything.
Something needs to be done as many of our provincial hospitals are no longer a place any sick person feels safe to go to.
