Really good, very well managed safe hands.
I've dealt with lawyers a few times and these chaps were the best I've had to deal with in both corporate and personal consultations. It was a challenging brief with very little time to prepare but the guys got things sorted with 2-3 working days (or less) to prepare for the high court. They managed a settlement and preparation for court in parallel and kept me informed while obviously fitting me in with the other cases they had in the pipeline. I am pretty confident that if I had not been in lucky enough that Jason took my call that I'd be in an amazingly bad financial situation as my legal insurance wouldn't even mediate my case and dropped me all together. I can only assume with more time these chaps are amazing, as they were very good with very little time.

Stay Away! Mistakes, unwarranted delays and high bills
Martin Vermaak Attorneys caused my uncontested divorce to be significantly delayed with a massive bill. They filed the divorce papers 5 weeks after the settlement agreement was signed (it should have been done immediately). They made me pay for delivery of the summons, even though the summons was never served on my husband. After 5 weeks of waiting, my husband just went to the sheriff office and collected it himself. Then, my attorney stopped responding to me and after numerous phone calls and emails I managed to find out she was not at the firm anymore. Nobody thought to inform me about this. So now I have to pay the same rate to a much less experienced lawyer who apparently took over my case. They delayed another 2 weeks waiting for the return of service before setting up a court date which is apparently not required. While all this was going on, my bills are just stacking up one after the other. I am still not divorced.

Please don't let Martin Vermaak Attorneys take Advantage of you!
Please be careful! I am extremely surprised to see these positive reviews. I suspect Martin has paid people to write these reviews. The service I received from this firm is shocking. They sent me a draft divorce contract which was full of mistakes and the cross referencing is incorrect. It seems their intention is to present documents like that in court so that the case can get thrown out and they can charge you more money to correct their errors. I had a one hour consult with Martin and I was given a contract full of extremely basic mistakes, such as physical addresses being incorrect. He did no research in terms of obtaining bank statements to acertain actual assets and liabilities. Martin charged me 17k for this and when question regaring their hourly fees I was told they billed me as they saw fit. He and all the associates at his firm just ignore my emails now and they still have my original marriage contract. I have the mens to take this further, but my heart breaks for all the other people who are in emotional turmoil and don't have the means to fight someone like Martin.

Don't use the services of Martin Vermaak Attorneys
I have to say that I am very disappointed with Martin Vermaak Attorneys (MVA). Although I was not a client of the law firm, I recently went through a divorce with my wife who was a client of MVA, and MVA was my opposition so to say. I had my own lawyers representing me. I was the Respondent in the whole matter, meaning that MVA and my wife were applicants, in other words they are the ones who instituted the divorce proceedings. After all was done including Divorce Settlement Agreement, all that was left was to go to court to conclude the matter. Except this did not occur because apparently my former wife hasn't settled her account with MVA. I have been informed that the fees for going to court to conclude this matter is about R2000. I have offered to pay this amount so that the divorce can be effected and everybody can carry on with their lives. However MVA are holding a gun to my head by insisting that if my wife does not settle her account, they will not take this matter to court for conclusion. Now how unfair is this on me given that I have nothing to do with the deal between my ex and MVA. I must mention here that they want me to settle my ex's account with them. Really now!!!!! I am exploring other avenues, including approaching the Law Society because I am a victim of circumstances that have nothing to do with me. I really feel that MVA are being unreasonable at best and plain right crooked at worst. I have offered to pay the fees to go to court and conclude this matter. They can then pursue their own private matter with my ex on recovering the rest of the fees owed to them. But to expect me to pay those fees is absolutely criminal. My advice to anyone seeking to use the services of MVA is to think twice before doing so.

Forever grateful!!
Martin is the only person who I will trust with my family's well-being. He is such a gentleman and very well respected in the community. He advises what is best for you and your family, which was such a relief after using other attorneys whose main priority was charging hours. I would consider Martin and his team family and I will be forever grateful that we found him!

Unprofessional and unethical law firm
I have looked through many reviews on hellopeter on law firms and I have come to the conclusion that many law firms are a law unto themselves. Martin Vermaak Attorneys are no different in this regard. I have to come know this law firm as they handled my divorce on behalf of my late ex husband. They are also the executors of a trust my ex husband set up for my 3 children. Sad to say my dealings with this firm has been nothing but unprofessional. Since my divorce which went through in December 2018, to date Martin Vermaak Attorneys have not transferred the property to the trust fund with the result that I am being harassed by the City of Johannesburg for an outstanding utilities bill of over R19000.00. My communication to Anja Griesel who is an attorney at Martin Vermaak, regarding this matter has gone unanswered and has been ignored completely. Appointed attorneys for City of Johannesburg have been ignored as well. This situation has gone on for over a year. I have communicated to Anja Griesel on numerous occasions regarding my children and that money is needed for monthly maintenance and my son who is completing his matric this year wishes to study further. After many messages that I have left with the receptionist as well as many numerous emails spanning over a few months, finally I received replies to my emails from Anja Griesel telling me that they cannot commit to any university tuition for any of my children. As for the maintenance issue that was not even addressed. I was told that they cannot do anything at all at this time. Bear in mind that my ex husband passed away in July 2019, Martin Vermaak is quite aware that there are minor children who are beneficiaries of this trust and who depend on this money for survival. Two years have gone by and said property that has been unoccupied for two years with household contents still in there. It didn't take long for a few thugs to try and break into the property, luckily it was a failed attempt (bear in mind that none of the household contents are insured and all this belongs to my children which forms part of the late estate), if the thugs did manage to break in all of the contents would have been lost with no means of recovery. Anja Griesel of Martin Vermaak has been prolonging everything, ignoring me at every turn by not responding to any of my communication, in the meantime funds will soon be finished on my side meaning that I along with my children will be out on the street as I only have a part time job and the pandemic has not made things any better. Children whose deceased father left a trust for them so they can be taken care will soon be begging on the street for food without a roof over their heads while Martin Vermaak has been taking their monthly fees from that trust account for 'managing' it. To date they have not been in contact with me regarding the welfare of my children or their future. It seems like Martin Vermaak will determine whether my children have a future or not because as we all know you need tertiary education in this country if you wish to have a better future. Unfortunately it will not be long before I cannot take care of my children any longer. I urge the public to think carefully before acquiring the services of this law firm. If anyone is considering to have their late estate handled by this law firm, I'm sorry to say but your family will suffer at the end while Martin Vermaak Attorneys 'manage' your trust account.
