Very bad service is an understatement! We’ve been waiting just over 2 years for Letters of Executorship from Cape Town’s Masters Office. They never answer their phones nor respond to emails. Documents are lost and then our Attorneys must reapply. Will we ever get anywhere with this office?

The most useless bunch of so called people in one building. I am 40 km from this hateful place and every month your office cost me a lot of money. Words can't describe your utterly incompetence but I do have a surprise for you so take your time.

Waiting more than 9 months for a letter of executorship. when lawyers go to follow up they get told the letter is not ready yet, When one sends emails, they don't respond, when one calls, you can never get through. It's disgusting. The least they can do is respond. The process should take up to 6 weeks, How do they justify 9 months?

I reported my late Mothers estate in Cape Town in January 2019, who passed away on 7 December 2018. Given that she was not a property owner, or had any money – meant that the same was thus an estate to be concluded in terms of section 18(3) of the Act. The purpose of reporting her estate was simply for a letter of authority in order to get her Woolworths and Forshini accounts paid up in accordance with the account protection. After several person`s dealing with the matter and requests for all documentation was finalised and ceded to the cape town offices, we waited. After several visits, calls and messages to the cape town office we were tersely advised that the documents were not in their possession? We yet again diligently physically visited the offices in and during 2021 and physically handed them over again ! After still nothing was forthcoming I personally visited the masters office yesterday (16 May 2022) and was assisted by an employee known as Ms Alexander on the 6th Floor. She ridiculously advised that the documents were not in their possession again, and that she would need to contact the person/s in the office to whom we delivered the same in 2021, the name provided to her has since left the masters office, so it seems like no one again takes responsibility in that regard. This was unrealistic and time consuming as the time lapse was preposterous in this case and solely occasioned at the instance of the cape town masters office. She was unobliging and I rather decided to re-sign and provided the outstanding documents for the umpteenth time. She then hastily advised that if all the documents are in order the letter would be finalised in this week and I would be contacted by her. I immediately completed the requisite form, and proceed to get the two members to do a renunciation letter immediately – upon my return with the letters to her she was not happy with the one which was not an originally signed paper but and emailed copy, she was unobliging, unreasonable and again advised that I could bring it at another time. Not wanting any further delays, I contacted my brother who had to travel from 37 kms to Cape Town and sign the same. When I retuned to her office she suddenly took and arrogant rude and irate stance, and backtracked from her pervious advise. She now lamented that I would be informed when the letters would be ready and could not say when? I enquired why it could not be ready in this week as previously advised after which she became bad-mannered, incensed and accused me of being irritated. She further made several unsubstantiated, wide and fallacious allegations that I had jumped the queue etc – she then in order to assert some sort of haughty authority stated that in future I cannot approach her office with documents which must be left on the ground floor! The manner in which she dealt with me, as a member of the public, in particular when they themselves are at fault was disgracefull especially given the fact that they are dealing with sensitive matters. There appears to be a flawed method by which the she dealt with this matter. She is confused by her duty of office in particular wrt to members of the public and their documents in her custody notwithstanding that since 2019 that office has failed to finalise a simplest letter in a section 18(3) estate. I wish to emphasise that I have no trust in the said employee iro her conduct in this matter in particular, that she appears to act as if she would wilfully sabotage and delay the matter at hand. I am advised that her bevaviour in many other instances has been the same. I trust that this matter could be finalised by another more rational, cooperative and well-mannered employee at your offices at the Cape Town Masters Office and that her conduct be investigated immedialtly.

The staff, including Security staff, at Cape Town Master's Office are very pleasant, helpful, patient and knowledgeable. We started queueing at about 6:20am. Prior to opening, an official came down the queue asking what we were there for and separated the queue into two. Covid protocols all observed carefully. Once inside, we didn't have to wait long. We were directed to the appropriate person who, speedily helped us - the only delay was due to slow loading of systems on the computer.
