In the beginning of 2019 I asked for a loan of R30,000 from Metro Finance Co. Received a letter from them that the loan was granted. They told me i have to make an upfront payment of R1,499. They said this would cover lawyer's fees and my first payment of R1,302 per month. I wanted to pay my debt that I had and then thought I would just have one place to pay every month. an amount that I could easily afford. But it did not stop there. they kept on asking me for upfront payments over months and send me a message that all upfront payments would be added to the loan amount, which meant I would get a larger sum of money that I had asked for. I paid what was asked from me, but after paying R11,599 over the period, I stopped, because I just did not have anymore money. A few months ago I received a letter from Barclays Bank UK to let me know they have my money and am I interested to carry on with the loan or would I rather have my refund. I was not interested to carry on with Mr Anderson at Metro Finance Co and let Barclays Bank know I would like my refund back. The person at Barclays bank is Mr Andrew Johnson, Credit Manager. I then received a cancellation form from Mr Anderson at Metro Finance which I had to fill in as cancellation of my loan and I had to pay him R1,250 as cancellation fee and then I will receive my refund. Of course then it started all over again. I had to pay transfer fees for the money into my account and then I had to pay conversion fees from euro to rand and then I had to pay insurance. I was told by Mr Anderson from Metro Finance all the money I paid, will be added onto my refund. He told me the amount is now R15,499 that they owe me. Mr Anderson also made a mistake with banking details he supplied and told me I must pay the amount of R1,200 again into another account. I objected and he said I can pay R700 and he will add on R500 to make up the amount and then told me he accepts full responsibility for the mistake and will pay my R700 back to me. I sent an e-mail to Barclays Bank, Mr Andrew Johnson, and his answer to me was that I must comply with the rules of Metro Finance Co. and pay what was asked. After paying another R5,100, I still did not get my refund and was further ignored by Mr Anderson and Mr Johnson. I feel Metro Finance Co is dishonest. I did asked Mr Johnson from Barclays Bank if this was a scam, and he assured me this is really not a scam and I will get my money. End of story, I never received a loan from Metro Finance Co and I never received my Refund. Please warn people about all this and is there anything you can do about it? I did file a Police report against Metro Finance Co. Difficult I am in Cape Town and Metro Finance Co is in Midrand. The Police here promised to send the file to Midrand Police to follow up. I have all necessary documents which was given to the Police and have kept all whatsapp messages on my phone should it be needed. I am desperate to get my money back. I am a pensioner, 77 years old and disabled.
