Such an incredible resorts we were there for five days and the weather in Mooi River KwaZulu Natal is so unpredictable mostly cold. It was a birthday retreat for me. The only downside is receptionist, we checked out on Friday 31st of October 2025 ,we left for Durban and i realised that i left my bathing items, body scrub, shower gloves and an umbrella , i called them , they told me housekeeping didn't report my items being left behind, there'll give housekeeping a call till today they haven't reached out to me.03 November 2025. Also the agents we were working with Yatsika is quite, after saying she'll call housekeeping.

I dont even know where to start! We have been to Saddle and trout many times before, the first time was absolute perfection and thats where it ended. The time before this past weekend our unit did not have a working fridge which resulted in all of our food going bad, the bath leaked and flooded the bathroom. This time round, when we arrived for check in I noticed that the room we were allocated was on the other end of the resort, I requested a room change to somewhere a bit closer to the resturaunt and amenities but they told me they were fully booked. I accepted that and went to our room. Since we arrived late I immediately unpacked the car and got my kids mini pizzas in the oven. 40min later and the pizzas were still not done, I open the oven and its not working, strike 1! The neighbors decided to throw one heck of a party, music blasting, people screaming, it was unbearable. I called reception to tell them to refund me and I would rather leave, we had been here approx 2hrs at this point. They offered to move us to another room?!? After being told they were fully booked! We moved and then headed to the resturaunt for some dinner, I went into the spa to book a treatment they they had on their menu that I was given on arrival only to be told they dont offer that service there? Again, what the hell? TAKE IT OFF YOUR MENU! Dissapointed I left and joined my family at the resturaunt. R102 for a waffle, we promptly left. Went to do the "pony ride" with my kids to get there and its 2 fully grown, rather large horses, my kids were terrified and didnt want to do it, no refund offered or the option to do another activity - R100 down the drain. Then to top off the exceptionally **** time we were having, my 1 year old stepped on a broken beer bottle and sliced his foot open. The "medic" on site wrapped it in a shoulder bandage which could go around a large foot 20 times so of course was a joke on a tiny 1 year old foot who promptly pulled it off. All in all, my love for this place has completely dwindled. I will NEVER be back nor will I recommend this place to anyone EVER AGAIN! Shame on you Saddle and Trout!

We were one the first owners of Midlands Saddle and Trout when it was time share. We exchanged it for points with Flexi Club. We went to Midlands on a mid week break 6/1/2025 to 10/1/2025 and were very dissapointed with the state of the resort. Firstly our braai was broken, it was replaced with a portable braai, the bedside lamps in the second bedroom had to be replaced, the kettle had to be replaced, the oven had to be replaced and the main bedroom toilet had to be replaced. The bowling green and the golf greens were basically unplayable. We shall never go back and shall just rely on our fond memories when it was timeshare.

Horrible accommodation facilitates. Never any electricity and no backup power. I am staying here for work, and each week I book in, I am faced with a new filthy unit. Bathrooms are terrible with old plumbing to add to the disgusting state. Booked in tonight and had to clean the bathroom myself once the electricity came on. Would not recommend anyone stay here on vacation, unless you'd like it permeated with greasy queasiness throughout your stay

As I am not getting a response now for almost a month and have since been blocked on all communications from the General Manager, I am hoping a resolution can come from this review. I worked for Midlands Saddle & Trout for the 2024 financial year and my employment came to an end in October of 2023. Each months PAYE was deducted from my salary and NOT submitted to SARS on the 7th of each month as lawfully required. SARS has now put me under investigation for lack of relevant documentation due to my latest return being at a zero submission, should I now go and submit the information based on my bank statements I will be liable to pay SARS despite the monies already being deducted from my salary by First Group. I am of the opinion that I am not the only ex-employee to be having such issues and it begs the question, where are these funds? Legally no company can hold these funds to draw interest, the EMP201 needs to be submitted monthly with payment by the 7th of each month, yet 1 year and 1 month since the beginning of 2024 tax year, not a single submission has been done. Upon leaving my employment there was an egregious error on my payout and the tax deduction thereon, after a back-and-forth battle between myself and the Deputy and Regional Manager, things were straightened out and correct payment were made. Since then, 2024 financial year end has rolled around and yet again another error has been made, this time I receive no feedback what so ever. Only once we advised the General Manager that we would be taking this further did he say he would send the documents on Monday the 8th of April before blocking that channel of communication, despite numerous follow ups on email for feedback for almost a month. In my opinion the fact that there is no communication and channels have been blocked shows me this is an admission of incompetence on their end, which is odd due to First Group claiming to be such a big corporate company.

The worst ever from firstgroup. Resort itself is good, but the staff is something else. Management along with reception, has our booking mixed up and we booked through firstgroup agency. They don't even try to accommodate you. Management wants to just blame the agents, yet they both work for firstgroup. Definitely a no no...I wonder where the directors of first group who should be auditing this place as they have failed dismally on customer service and and hospitality. I would gove them a zero start not even a one.

We booked the 4 bedroom unit for 2 nights and we come to check in only to find out that the person working here that we booked with had forgot to make a reservation for us! Now they want to give us ****py 2-bedroom chalets as an alternative with no private pools! But that is not what we booked! We came as a family with preparations for the 4-bedroom with the pool! This is complete nonsense and such a freaking huge inconvenience! The gentleman working at the front desk doesn't seem phased by this and thinks that we are being unreasonable but we traveled all the way from Gauteng and we're not getting what we paid for!!!
