Our move from one house to another became about the most unpleasant business deal which I have memory of. It was totally avoidable but they preferred it to be such. If they could be difficult with something, they preferred to be impossible. In fairness let me state a few positive outcomes. They arrived on the day of the move, damages to items were limited due to my close supervision. The move was 95% completed the next day against extra payment. Now for the aspects which I found most unsatisfactory and unpleasant.
* Scheduled start time was 08:00. They arrived late by an hour and forty minutes. Immediately thereafter there was insistence on extra pay due to late working (everything after 16:30). * The quote clearly included wrap (bubble or plastic). They had nothing. They had no blankets to protect the furniture. They had no trolley to support heavy loads like a double door fridge. * The team was not listening to requests for items to be specially taken care of. The typical response is yes and then carry on regardless. Items that were asked for to keep upright were tilted around. * They quickly determined that some beds were not possible to be removed from the rooms. The fact that these beds were brought into the room before was of no consequence. When trying to explain possible methods of maneuvering the bed to exit, it was not well regarded. Assistance was not freely rendered but in an angry spirit. * At the new house the beds presented the same problem and was proposed to be just left outside the room - not their problem. I had to show them how to get it inside - again not well received. * There is only one way to do the work and this is their way. Requesting boxes to be left in the garage rather than moved to the rooms which still had to receive furniture was met with they will not pick it up again. To be noted the garage is directly on the route towards entering the house. * They were understaffed and not capable of managing the big items. I just had to find resources to come and assist without any appreciation whatsoever. * I specially packaged an antique glass cabinet in a wooden crate to ensure safe transport. Reaching the other end they were not prepared to lift the cabinet onto the sideboard upon me opening up the crate. * Some items were to be taken to a store. They departed without sufficient fuel to reach the target just 15 km away. In a way that was fortunate because they were on the incorrect road and would not have reached the store anyway. They have no access to Google Maps or GPS to ensure they reach the destination. * The load had to be unloaded that evening and repacked the next day due to the delays causing the store not to be reached on time. * At the destination house the staff continuously and loudly quarreled among each other, having no regard for other residents. * The vehicle was unnecessarily parked in a way to block the road for other residents without achieving any benefit or purpose. It was not well received when such matters were pointed out. * They insisted not to take certain load due to me having a bakkie and in their view I will be able to handle it making a few journeys. * The staff did not provide for their own food and we just had to provide.
