Guy McLaren, now t/a Dust Factory
Guy McLaren aka Wood Guy, t/a Pretoria Kitchens, Dust Factory, and various other names. Guy McLaren took our deposit and did not do the work. During September 2022 we contracted Guy McLaren of Dust Factory to refurbish our custom kitchen units. We paid him a 60% deposit on 27 September 2022. Guy McLaren collected the contracted items for restoration on 10 November 2022. He failed to keep appointments made to complete the work. On 10 March 2023 Guy McLaren cancelled his contractual obligations. On 14 March 2023 he returned most of the items he had removed. Guy McLaren has now offered to refund the deposit in the amount of R200 per month. A Google search of the name "Guy McLaren" yields multiple complaints averring that he receives a deposit and then fails to complete the contracted work. These complaints range back to 2015 and span a number of trade names that he had used. Would that I had done better online research before paying over money into his account.

Pretoria Kitchens, Guy McLaren, Do not trust this person
Please do mot do any business with the owner Guy McLaren. I paid a 60% deposit for revamping my kitchen, I signed a contract with hom because he said and on the website he stated that he do the work himself. He lied about this as he subcontracted all the work. The cabinets was not done up to standard by the subcontractor and I the client had to tell Guy the work is not done up to standard. He gave cabinets back to subcontractor whick I requested hom not to do, now Guy does mot want to pay the subcontractor and the subcontractor is keeping my doors until he received payment. I request Guy to pay the subcontractor so that I can get the doors back he refused and said he does not have the money and will go to court to get the doors back. What has he done with my money as only a few if the items were delivered on my premises. I requested my doors back and then he informed he that he declare himself insolvent now. Work was suppose to be finished before lockdown.

Please do mot do any business with the owner Guy McLaren. Pretoria Kitchens - Guy Mclaren scammer
The absolute worst service and quality I've ever experienced. He talks about clients swearing at him, but I heard HIM swearing at his clients! He always needed another day or 2 to finalise - even over 2 months later. Always busy with other jobs though..... quick to collect deposit and then the service deteriorated... Didn't even bother to respond to my complaint e-mails. It cost me weeks and a lot of money to get everything redone. Just a pity I cannot give 0 stars.... What takes the cake is he asked his friends to give him good reviews so his rating goes up. Watch out, he changes his company name regularly

it should be mentioned that this contract was cancelled by us, the client, as we did not want to engage further. We were left with substandard work and we had to pay other providers to fix some of the elements of the kitchen. We would not recommend this provider.

Do not make use of Pretoria Kitchens
We hired Pretoria Kitchens for kitchen remodeling and painting. We paid his deposit on the 10th of Nov 2017. In an email he said he would be finished before Christmas. He is still not finished. He also wanted an advance on his payment agreement which we gladly/stupidly did to help, ONLY to now have an unfinished project. He is not answering our calls, he does not respond to our messages. He did a horrible job! I have many photos! Two of the drawers in the kitchen cannot even close and that is just the beginning. He breached his contact, he stated that the cupboard handles would be stainless steel, but instead he put in PLASTIC handles. He never asked our opinion on the color of the paint, color of the counter tops, color of the handles etc. As a result, my mother now lost some of her pension money and has a incomplete, substandard job to show for it. How sad is it that people can do this to one another.
