After getting my skin ripped off some 2 weeks ago during an eyebrow wax at the Clearwater Mall Sorbet, dealing with an incompetent therapust and then a rude owner, I returned to the beauty bar on Friday (19 August 2016).

My reason for going into the store was rather simple - to speak to the owner face to face in order to follow up on how they are going to attempt to rectify the blemish on my face caused by one of their the******s. Unfortunately, the owner was not in. The owners mother was however there - seated behind the counter and chatting to those ladies who did not have any clients or who had no work to do.

Upon walking into the store, I spoke to the lady behind the counter and enquires if she was the owner. She recognized my story immediately since I reported it to head office (whereby nothing concrete has been done about my bad experience or scar below my eyebrow). After asking what corrective action they intend taking, the owners mother became hostile, rude and rather unpleasant to talk to. To me, this was no surprise - given that this seems to be the culture within this particular branch. Showing her annoyance at the fact that this matter had been reported to head office, I repeatedly got told that their insurance company is dealing with the matter given that it is somewhat medical in nature. When bringing it to her attention that 2 weeks have past and no one from the insurance company has contacted me, the lady became even more abrupt. What disgusts me is the fact that she could look at the mark left on my face (in front of clients and staff) and publicly state that they can not admit to causing the mark that has been left on my face. Thereafter, she continued to tell me how she "actually can't be speaking to me".

I'm shocked! I'm disgusted! I'm appalled! How shrewed does one need to be, to categorically lie in order to avoid taking accountability for a the****** actions that's clearly demonstative of questionable competencies.

Owners like these discredit the whole franchise and ***** the business name. Please be aware when deciding to go to Sorbet - particularly the Clearwater outlet. Treatment can be abrasive, both in interaction and during treatment.

I am writing this out of absolute disgust and to share my horrific experience at Sorbet, Clearwater.

Before I begin it is important to note that it is not the first time I receive treatment at the Sorbet in Clearwater Mall. After visiting this Sorbet Salon on Thursday (04 August 2016) for an eyebrow wax, I left with several layers of my skin removed from my face. Subsequent to this abrasive eyebrow wax, I am now left with a scar on the bottom line of my eyebrow - which further extends into my eye lid. This mark still has not lightened and I have not received any correspondence from Sorbet as to how they intend on assisting me.

Mbali Mthombeni is the the****** who attended to me and who also injured me. I am told that the owner of this Sorbet outlet is Nasrin. I am absolutely appalled by both of them for several reasons.

Firstly, the minute Mbali began my wax, I immediately commented that my skin was burning and further expressed concern - questioning whether or not I still had skin around my eyebrow. In an extremely nonchalant manner, I got told that all was in order and nothing was wrong with my face. Upon requesting a mirror to check for myself, the the****** stalled and avoided giving me a hand mirror. When she eventually did allow me to have a look in the mirror, she refused to take accountability for the damage that she caused to my face. She assured me that no skin had been removed and that the redness that I was seeing was simply a "little blood spot". My level of disappointment and dissatisfaction was apparent. As a result, Mbali was rather persistent that I do not pay for the treatment. After explaining to her that I entered the salon for a service and not a free treatment, she then negotiated with me not to pay for the eyebrow tint that was also part of my initial treatment. Principally, I understand that it is a policy of Sorbet not to expect payment should a customer be unhappy with the treatment they received. In this case, no amount of free treatments can compensate for the damage that has resulted from the abrasive treatment I experienced.

Secondly, out of pure frustration, I conceded to Mbali's persuasion of part payment. At this point, I took great offense to her avoidant behaviour insofar as not giving a full explanation to her fellow colleague as to why I am not paying the full amount. Here, she requested that someone else rung up my payment while she snuck off to look for some or other serum to apply to the affected area. With this, I had to settle for the equivalent of a small, used, plastic bag, pulled out of a draw underneath the counter, in which some berry serum was decanted. Though I accepted the decanted serum, it was obvious that it could not use what I was given for obvious hygiene reasons. I guess that I should be great for the two free samples of redness relief that I was also given.

Due to the rawness of my skin and the associated burning sensation, I returned to the salon about 15 to 20 minutes later. Upon my arrival, the technicians in the front area could not understand why I was back so soon. This ties back to what was mentioned earlier in terms of Mbali not taking accountability and sneaking off during our previous interaction. I had to explain why I was back, though the marks on my face had become even more visible. I demanded to see Mbali in attempt to correct the mess she had caused. I also explained that I had to be out of the mall by 15:00. Mbali assured that she would attend to me within 5 minutes. I waited a little over 10 minutes for her to attend to me. Consequent to waiting, she only attended to me after 15:00. In attempt to reduce the swelling around my eye and the redness, she applied a calming mask on the affected area. During this time, I asked Mbali if the redness was associated with skin that had been removed from my face, or if it was a minor irritation equivalent to bruised skin. She assured me that it was definitely not removed skin. She explained this with such confidence and even accounted for a time when she did rip a client’s skin off to the point that the client bled. However, she found a way to displace this mistake back onto the client. I feel that at this point, it is important for me to comment on her conduct during treatment. Applications of products and the removal thereof can only be described as rough. Her way of communicating at times can also be interpreted as insensitive. An example of this is: "I will give you a curtesy call before I knock-off". The mere addition of the word 'curtesy' in that sentence implies obligation or duress - not sincerity; but I assume that this is acceptable since the non-payment policy must compensate for damage caused by a the******, right?

This leads me to my third point. After waking up on Friday morning, it was evident that the skin ripped off from my face extended all the way across my eyebrow. Out of absolute disbelief, I called the Clearwater branch wherein my call got directed to the owner of the salon. I spoke with Nasrin over the phone. This call was somewhat frustrating - I listened to her talk about reimbursing me and also listened to further excuses in defence of Mbali. Nasrin also requested that I send her pictures of my eyebrow. I did so immediately and was further disappointed and insulted by the absence of acknowledging receipt of the requested pictures. While on the phone with Nasrin, I got told that this matter would be reported to Sorbet Head Office as this is also part of the standard Sorbet policy. Needless to say, when following up with Head Office, they were completely oblivious to what had happened. Through many tedious and frustrating calls with both the owner of the salon and Sorbet, Head Office - I got told that my details will be forwarded to their insurance company as the damage to my face calls for medical treatment. Two weeks have gone by and no one has contacted me in attempt to reach some form of resolve.

My initial request to Sorbet Head Office entailed:

1. Proof that this matter has indeed been reported to Head Office by Nasrin before 10 August 2016,
2. Proof that Mbali is qualified with the requisite competence, and
3. How this matter is going to be addressed given that I have a scar on my face that is not healing. This also serves to assure that this does not happen to another customer.

It is no surprise that these requests have not been met. I encourage those of you reading this to think twice before going to this particular Sorbet outlet and seeing the mentioned beautician.

On a closing note, my eyebrow wax turned into a skin wax. Being the proactive person that I am, I did indeed seek medical assistance on my own accord. After spending quite a sum, I got prescribed an anti-biotic cream, antihistamine, as well as other vitamins intended to reduce scaring and damage to the skin. Even so, this has not helped.
