Last week I purchased 2x 5 lt (R651) and 1 x 20 lt paint (1 018), from the Pietria hardware, where I normally shop for my business and personal goods.

The paint I purchased was specifically for steel as I need to complete a job I finalising. Two days after applying the paid my customer called me advising the paint looked like it was “rusting” and sent me pics. I immediately went to the customer as assured him I would rectify this as the paint I bought I was led to believe, was the correct paint. I took the sealed paint back on Sunday 9 April 2017 and requested to speak to a manager. I was met by a person called Hannes. As I explained the situation he started accusing me of not have done my job complete therefore the issue in the paint “spread like cancer”. He then requested details of my customer, which I refused ! No professional will disclose their customer details to a third party. We had a brief exchange of words as this was not what I expected and surely I am not unreasonably in wanting proper customer service. He was extremely rude, embarrassing me in front of other customers so I left.

On Monday I wanted to rectify this issue and called the owner, Pieter. I wanted to make him aware of what happening in his shop in his absence. He was indeed aware of the incident and told me they stock over 6 000 line items and cant possible know what they all are. I tried to reason with him only to be told “I hope our paths don’t cross and I don’t need customers like you”, putting the phone down. I will never support the local hardware I’ve been supporting since I started my business, before that in a personal capacity. The least I expected from either Hannes or Pieter was an apology, none happened and I had to resolve the matter with the supplier directly.

Regards

Stefan Smit

Owner
