I started working at baha taco the day after my interview for FOH Manager. The first shift was a training shift and I quickly got a hang of their place. I tried to discuss wages with them on more than one occasion as I had to drive from Cresta area to Norwood and had to make sure that my salary would be sufficient to over my fuel, running cost, and all my other financial responsibilities. The owners told me, whenever I asked them about pay, that I had to prove my worth before they could discuss pay. This raised red flags to me and I eventually, after being advised by other restaurant owners, gave them notice that I would be leaving. only then did they tell me that pay would be R900 p/week plus tips. If I had known that from the start I would never have agreed to work there as i drove out R500 petrol per week. I agreed to work two more weekends to give them time to find a replacement as I do not wish to drop anyone in a mess. I requested my pay in order to fill up my car and received a payment of R400. This, according to Dave the owner, was a week's wages plus tips. How does anyone survive on that?! And The owners have told me on more than one ocasion how their business is doing so well and they do not even know what to do with all the cash. They have boasted about purchasing a property in Kei Mouth with old hard cash. Now I know they claim to be "ethical" and they claim to "uplift their black staff" but they really pay them the bare minimum wage. It is Disgusting and I will never support them again!!
