I would really appreciate it if you would please be so kind as to help me. I am a seventy two year old, wheelchair bound Co Trustee of a Sectional Title house which has been in a Trust since 1978. United Town Houses are the Managing Agents. Unfortunately due to ill health I spent months at a time in hospital having one amputation after another so was not always in a position to know what was going on. About three years ago, without my knowledge, consent or signature or permission, UTH charged me R299 for a panic button which I do not need, want or have. When this charge was picked up I immediately wrote to UTH asking them to reverse this amount. I received a reply that this panic button was compulsory and that it would take them a long time to look into this. I wrote asking for the legislation that this was compulsory, the date and Minutes of the Meeting with a resolution to this affect and the ratification of this resolution. NO REPLY in over a year. I then took it upon myself to pay my levy minus the panic button charge. Last year was our first AGM in over two years. This year our AGM has been postponed till the 27th July. Realizing that UTH could use this shortfall of mine against me and deny me my voting rights, I wrote to UTH. NO RESPONSE. Today I wrote again asking, yet again, that the reverse this charge and asking them to confirm this by return post. NO REPLY. UTH has had the benefit of my money for three years and have done nothing to answer my requests and queries regarding this. I have proof that even my WhatsApp messages to the Chair lady, albeit on an unrelated matter have been received but never responded to. I have, at times, received an acknowledgement of receipt of my letters but I do not receive any other response. I need to know why it is compulsory to have this panic button which I was charged for three years ago and only found out about this last year. It would appear that UTH are happy to take my money but couldn't be bothered to answer my questions and requests. I thank you in anticipation of your prompt attention to this matter. Yours faithfully, Colleen Ritchie 073 299 9603
