In March 2025 I cancelled my membership with Virgin Active, who I have been a member with since 2021. I have Discovery Vitality, so I ended up paying R375 a month for my gym membership. On 27 March, I got a call from their sales rep. She offered a “retention package” which was 50% of my current fee for a total of 4 months, after which I can decide if I want to keep my contract or terminate. This sounded fab, paying R187.50 for 4 months seemed like a good deal. I’m not sure what transpired after that - but since then, Virgin Active has been charging R1500 a month since then. I’ve gone into the gym, I’ve called countless call centers and help lines, each person redirecting me to the next. No one is able to pinpoint who can help, who I can chat to, an email of someone in charge?? This is not only a breach of the agreed retention offer but a significant overcharge. I’m not sure what my rights are here or who I can contact for assistance, as Virgin active themselves don’t seem to have anyone to help.
