The ********** things this establishment gets away with are atrocious, I have been a faithful patron of this store for years and recently purchased a couple of items including two containers of 200 grams of cocoa on the 9th of June 2024. After preparing a cup for myself, I noticed an unusual taste in the cocoa. Upon discussing this with my husband, he pointed out that the expiration date on the label of the container was 18/06/2024. The average shelf life of cocoa powder is 3 years if unopened and 2 years once opened. So I am completely shocked at where they get the gall to sell cocoa powder with a 2-week shelf life. This is beyond belief, never in my life have I ever seen such a complete disregard for consumer safety. This is not only classist but ****** too, especially considering that the people who frequent your establishment are mainly black people who form part of the proletariat, the working middle or lower class, but that does not mean we deserve to be sold sub-par products. What you guys are doing is outrageous, I want a refund and an apology. Update: Bargain Basket is continuing with its ********* business practices. Instead of acknowledging and rectifying the issues raised, my comments have been deleted from all their social media platforms. Unfortunately, my colleague who I shared the cocoa powder with, consumed it and subsequently experienced symptoms of food poisoning. I intend to escalate this matter to the National Consumer Commission to ensure they are aware of the unacceptable conduct exhibited by your establishment.
