After my first review Dolphin Pool Service finally responded to the NSPI, not to me, that they will attempt to resolve the poor pool colouring but only if I remove my report on their performance from Social Media. Via the NSPI I responded that once the pool colour is accepted by me I will remove the social media report on the terrible Dolphin Pool Services, and their owner's, performance. Only after the Social Media Report did the owner of Dolphin Pool Services admit (to the NSPI) that they did not install the quoted for and contracted marbelite material which was from a very reputable marbelite supplier, SA Marbelite. The Dolphin Pool Services will not state which company supp**** the inferior colored marbelite. Maybe they mixed it in a wheelbarrow in their back yard! That's how bad this is. The owner of Dolphin Pool Services stated that they would not remove and replace the marbelite but use some other, unspecified, approach. This could be acid washing which is used for removing stains from marbelite. The installed marbelite is not stained but multi colored owing to incorrect mixing and installation processes. Acid wash will only damage the marbelite surface not correct the two tone colour problem. I'd end up with my marbelite still being two toned horribly but surface damaged owing to acid wash or some other surface treatment. If Dolphin Pool Services corrects the, NSPI certified, poor colour problem with my pool I will remove my reports on their exceedingly poor performance from social media.
The following is a summary of the facts (no opinions) supporting the recommendation to not utilise the services of Dolphin Pool Services (Pty) Ltd (referred to as DPS in this document) and SA Marbelite. This document was communicated to Henk van **** (HvD), the owner of DPS, for his comments prior to it being posted on Social Media. 1. DPS were contracted to renovate my pool. Work commenced on the 22nd April 2024. 2. This renovation was primarily the removal and replacement of the marbelite lining. 3. A deposit of R20 919 was paid into the DPS bank account provided on their invoice. A Proof of Payment (POP) was emailed to DPS. 4. On the 24th April 2024 HvD contacted me and informed me that the deposit had not been received. I referred to the POP. HvD then claimed that the bank account I had used was not that of DPS. I was able to demonstrate it was the account on the DPS invoice. HvD then provided another bank account details claiming it was their bank account. 5. HvD threatened to stop work if I didn’t pay the deposit into the second bank account. I agreed to repay the deposit and they continued the work while we tried to resolve the bank account problem. No real risk as the second deposit was the balance of the full payment. 6. The bank account problem was never fully resolved. The actual balance was later paid to DPS in good faith that they would resolve the pool colour issue which arose. 7. On completion of the work and the pool refilled I complained that the colour of the pool, meant to be sky blue, was incorrect as it was a terrible crazy uneven colour of light blue and dark blue. HvD said it would even out after a couple of weeks. This did not occur and upon visiting the pool HvD agreed it was not correct and that he also had a pool in Styn City with the same problem. He informed me he would take the matter up with the marbelite supplier. 8. I requested the marbelite supplier to visit the pool to observe the colour issue. The marbelite supplier, still unnamed at this stage, failed to visit the pool. 9. DPS then issued a report supposedly from the marbelite supplier claiming the pool colour was normal. The report had no letter head and all names had been redacted. The report read like a pro-forma document unrelated to my pool issue. HvD refused to tell me the marbelite supplier. It is possible that the report was fabricated by HvD. HvD then washed his hands of the pool colour problem citing the marbelite supplier report. 10. Thereafter a long argument ensued but HvD refused to correct the pool colour. This was then over 2 months post installation. 11. At the end of the argument I contracted the National Spa and Pool Institute (NSPI) to undertake an inspection of the pool and write a report. DPS is a proud member of the NSPI. HvD agreed to abide by the findings of the NSPI. 12. On the 16.08.2024 the NSPI issued their report concluding that the pool colour was not correct. 13. The NSPI inspector informed me that the Marbelite supplier of the Platinum Marblite Sky Blue installed was S A Marbelite, the only supplier of this named material. 14. The NSPI report was issued to HvD of DPS by both the NSPI and myself. HvD has refused to acknowledge the report. On the 2nd September 2024 HvD was given the ultimatum to respond with his, and S A Marbelite’s corrective action or I would take the matter to social media as my last resort. He failed to respond to me and failed to respond to the NSPI. 15. On the 6th September 2024 this report was issued to HvD of DPS for his comments. No response was received. 16. Based on the above experience I recommend not to have any dealings with Dolphin Pool Services and SA Marbelite.
