I am writing this review to warn others about the so-called "benefits" of Discovery Bank and Vitality Travel. My experience has been nothing short of heartless and utterly unprofessional. I had to cancel a return flight to Cape Town after my husband passed away four days before the scheduled departure. Safair’s policy in the event of a death is a 50% refund (which in my case would have been approximately R1,300). However, Discovery Bank only paid out R277 to me. Upon inquiry, they shamelessly admitted that they kept the difference as administration fees! The "discounted flights" they advertise are a farce when you consider the lack of service and hidden costs. I have been trying to close my account since January 2026. Despite numerous requests in January, February and March, the process was intentionally delayed: They requested my bank details for a credit balance refund, but because I didn't respond within 3 days, my emails with the details were simply ignored. The account was kept open against my will just so they could deduct another R600 in monthly banking fees before finally closing it When I turned to Hellopeter in February, Discovery Bank posted a response claiming they had contacted me. I never received a call or any follow-up from them. Discovery Bank is the worst institution I have ever dealt with. They lack compassion, their administrative processes are designed to exploit customers, and their customer service is dishonest. I would not recommend this bank to anyone.
I have been trying to close my account with Discovery Bank for several weeks now, and the experience has been a total nightmare. I’ve sent multiple emails and made numerous follow-up calls, yet I haven’t received a single response. It is completely unacceptable for a financial institution to ignore a client for weeks on end. I am still waiting for someone—anyone—to get back to me and finalise this process.
I contacted *Kobus Electronics* for DSTV issues at my new home. The service was a deeply upsetting experience due to their complete lack of professionalism and transparency regarding costs. NO COST ESTIMATE OR QUOTE: They provided absolutely NO cost estimate or written quotation before starting the work. I was presented with an exorbitant invoice (*from DSTV 365)* totalling nearly R11,000, and they still charged me a call-out fee. DSTV confirmed that this company/technician is NOT DSTV ACCREDITED. DSTV also confirmed that the amount charged is ASTRONOMICALLY HIGH for the work delivered, far exceeding standard industry rates. This is a clear case of price gouging and a total lack of transparency. AVOID THEM! I strongly advise anyone needing DSTV service to use only certified, DSTV-accredited technicians who provide a detailed, written quote beforehand.
I am extremely dissatisfied with the service I received from Mr Volt regarding an electrical issue at my townhouse. After my tenant reported frequent power tripping, I was contacted by Alex, who sent two illegible WhatsApp quotations—one for R3,500 and another for R7,500—under the name Tshepo from Electricians on Call. Despite requesting a clearer quote, I received the same unreadable images. We decided to get a second opinion. Meanwhile, my tenant informed me that the surge protector, which was working, had been removed without consent. The new electrician completed the job for half the price. When I queried Alex, he referred me to his supervisor, who promised to reinstall the item but never did. It became clear that multiple subcontractors were involved, leading to confusion and no accountability. Mr Volt later asked for a photo of the surge protector—something I obviously don’t have. This experience has been frustrating and highly unprofessional.
Good morning,
I received the following \confirmation\" from Mango Travel on Saturday 23/1/16. \" Please note that due to limited availability at the hotel, this reservation is 'on request'. One of our consultants will contact the hotel to try and confirm this reservation, should we not be able to confirm this hotel, we will offer you alternative options (some options may entail additional or lesser costs), should any of these alternatives not suit you, we will offer you a full refund.\"
I was worried about the fact that we might not get the accommodation as our travel date is very close and searched for something else. I phoned Progress on Monday to find out whether the booking is confirmed or not, I also requested her to look elsewhere for accommodation and told her that I would try to find something as well. According to her, the flights were confirmed and paid for, but should she not find something suitable, you would refund the difference.
In her e-mail to me, nothing was mentioned about a cancellation fee. Now there is a 20% cancellation fee?? "
