If it were possible to give a rating below one star, this experience would unfortunately qualify. I visited Woodrock Animal Rescue in Hennops Park, South Africa, after being referred by their sister facility, Woodrock Cattery in Kyalami Corner, to begin the process of adopting a kitten. I went to the rescue on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, intending to adopt one kitten. Upon arrival, I was told single‑kitten adoptions were not allowed and that I would need to adopt two. This was fine — I agreed, completed the forms, and received instructions on the home adjustments required for their inspection. Wanting to provide a safe, loving environment, I proceeded with the recommended renovations at my own cost. On Sunday, 5 April 2026, I returned with my autistic nephew, who loves animals. During this visit, we encountered an elderly gentleman whose behaviour was deeply concerning. He raised his voice at my 66‑year‑old mother and made intimidating remarks, including threats of violence toward both her and my nephew. Despite the distress, we chose not to escalate the situation. The next day, I received a polite message from Karen informing me that my application had been declined — with no explanation and no acknowledgement of the financial investment already made to meet their requirements. This experience has left me questioning the reasoning behind the decision, especially after following every instruction in good faith with the genuine intention of providing a loving home. I share this not out of malice, but to create awareness for others who may wish to support or adopt from this organization. Transparency, professionalism, and respectful communication are essential in any adoption process, particularly for families eager to help animals in need.
