Same story as everybody else. Deal looked just a little bit too good to be true, fell for it, paid, no delivery. Sucker!

When my previous geyser failed several years ago, I took the plumber's advice and replaced it with a 150 liter Xstream Mainstream geyser. These (somewhat more expensive) geysers are made from glass fibre, and should be very resistant to corrosion. The only slightly unsatisfying characteristic of this geyser was that the hot water released a styrene smell (as products made with polyester or vinylester resing initially do). Fortunately, this faded after a month or two.

However, after about 8 years of service, we started finding large numbers of small blue particles in the hot water. I phoned a few plumbers, but none of them had any idea where these came from. I then phoned the manufacturer, who advised that the internal baffles were breaking up, but these could be replaced quite easily. I then asked XStream for a reference to a plumber in my area who would be able to do this repair. They responded that they would send the necessary parts to a plumber that they normally dealt with, and instruct him accordingly. Several weeks and several phone calls later, Able Plumbers eventually called to make an appointment for a Saturday morning. I cancelled another appointment, but the plumbers failed to arrive on time. They called several times during the day to advise that they would be with us shortly, and eventually arrived 4 hours late. Two workers disappeared into the ceiling, fiddled with the geyser for two hours, and then re-appeared stating that the part they had been provided with did not fit.

An e-mail to Xstream for clarification about the repair failed to produce any response. Another round of phone calls to XStream (who never call back) eventually elicited a promise that the correct part would be dispatched, and that the same (Un)Able Plumbers would be in touch to effect the repair. Ten days later I am still waiting. A very disappointing experience.

They geyser is long out of warranty, but since the failure was described as repairable, I would have liked to have it repaired, at my own expense of course. But no luck, so replacement is the only viable option. Why should it be so difficult to render a professional service?
