Don't Use Kevin or Pure Water Pools!
I have tried to write this review without emotion and to stick to the facts. I would not go as far as calling Kevin Guelpy from Pure Water Pools a ****mer or a con artist. In my view, he is simply a very poor businessman who has trouble telling the truth. Kevin was recommended to me by my brother-in-law, as he had his pool relined by Kevin a few months earlier. He was happy with the work, although he did mention that Kevin arrived late most days and the job took longer than expected. Since the end result looked good, I thought I would give him a try. My experience turned out quite different. The job took about four times longer than the original estimate. Kevin arrived late almost every day, usually between 10.30 and 12:00, even though he had agreed to start at 09.00. And on three days, he did not arrive at all, despite multiple assurances that he would be there. He normally arrived with one unskilled worker, sometimes two. He spent a short time explaining what needed to be done and then left. On one occasion, the workers ran out of materials and had to stop. Only when my wife contacted Kevin did he return with more supplies. The workers also had to take long taxi rides home, which made it clear that the whole setup was quite poorly managed. The actual workmanship was fine (average), but the organisation was not. After reading Zaid P’s review, I believe that our jobs may have been at similar times. Now it’s clear that he was using payments from new jobs to complete older ones. It also explained the delays and why he sometimes did not show up. In my view, this led to him making promises that he did not keep and cutting corners. If you choose to use Pure Water Pools, I sincerely hope you get the service my brother-in-law did, and not the extremely drawn-out and unreliable experience I had.

BEWARE OF KEVIN PURE WATER POOLS
Extremely bad experience - Owner Kevin is a ****** and a *****. PLEASE STAY AWAY FOR YOUR OWN PIECE OF MIND !!! If he is already doing work for you, do not pay him a cent and rather get someone else. I wish I had seen the previous review (Darryl Y) of Kevin before engaging him because he did exactly the same thing to me. Engagement began on the 19th September 2025 to renovate my pool and building a spa, where he committed that the work would be completed by 31 October 2025, citing a 4 to 5 week turnaround time. On this basis, I in good faith made the 20% deposit (R25,000 on 19th September 2025) to secure his time and then a further 50% payment (R62,500 on 30th September 2025) after work “supposedly” commenced with the draining of the pool. This is when the trouble began. Over the following weeks he either didn't show up at all, claiming various challenges (family ill, Bakkie broken down, etc) or sporadically came through with unskilled labour, inadequate tools and bits and pieces of building material; completing absolutely minimal shoddy work (eg: I had to personally hire a Jack Hammer). After numerous follow ups and continued unfulfilled promises by Kevin, on the 25th October we had an in person meeting where an extension to the 7th November was granted and I followed up with a letter of demand to which he committed and agreed to. I even cited the previous review where he claimed that there is always two sides to the story blaming the reviewer. Never the less, the next two days saw some effort by him and a larger team of unskilled folk which promptly ended once again to my disappointment with the same behaviour. He then blamed the rain and bakkie broken again for not meeting the timelines. I pleaded with him to complete as I had paving contractors that needed to start and was awaiting the completion of the pool. Once again promises were made and another chance given whilst the pavers started around the pool area and hopefully aligning to his completion to finish the paving BUT alas nothing materialised except him and his team making a bigger mess than what was already there. Finally after him not showing up at all or taking my calls I sent him a termination letter on the 22nd November. I called in two independent contractors to firstly evaluate what had been done and quote me on completing the job. Both said that the work done had to be completely undone as the hollow bricks used were not adequate, the concrete mix exacerbated with no reinforcement would see the completely skew wall collapse as soon as the pool was filled. They estimated the material as well as labour cost done to be less than R25 000. Their quotes for the complete job also came in at 30% less then what Kevin quoted. Kevin accepted the termination telephonically where I also requested a refund after I even inflated what was done to R35000. He claimed to have no money to pay me back and on querying what happened to it, he said he got the material. I requested to have the material to then be delivered and after a week of nothing, he then said he had to pick used bits of it up at other sites. So "*****ing" from others to now fulfil this. I informed him that this is not on and I want my money back - he promised to then pay in instalments to which I have still not seen a cent and he is now completely ignoring my texts and calls. Unfortunately due to this ************ person - I now do not have enough funds to complete the job or for the additional expenses to complete the paving, a hole in the ground where a pool used to be and a messed up back yard. A summer and who knows how long without a pool until I save up enough funds or get a loan and go into debt to finish the project. I have begun legal proceedings so if you are in the same boat with Kevin, please post it here in order to build a stronger case against him.

BEWARE OF KEVIN PURE WATER POOLS
WARNING WARNING WARNING DO NOT USE PURE WATER POOLS THIS MAN KEVIN IS A CON ARTIST. Firstly, he gives the impression that he knows what he’s doing, but he just talks convincingly. I don’t believe any of the pics in his portfolio are work that has been done by himself or pure water pools. Kevin(pure water pools) has been on my site for 3 months after taking a R40,000 deposit, and all I’ve got is a skew shell. After confronting him, it came out he does not have the money to complete the project, and I’m now left with a pool which is not complete and Extra cost of R30,000 to complete. He has taken a client of mine for a ride as well to break out 2 pool steps and blend in another 2 steps with the existing martini step. On inspection of both pools, all the building is skew. Pure water pools (Kevin) does not have the proper tools to build a pool or anything else; he uses a fish line for everything, including plastering and marbeliting. All the work is completely skew. He does not use a straight edge, level or any plastering tools. He has taken a total of R90,000 in 2 months from myself and my client and has done disgusting and minimal work. I got a second and third opinion on a price for work that has been done and was told no more than R20,000 on both jobs as it stands now. Kevin( pure water pools uses casual Labour which he gets on the streets and has no qualified staff, he leaves the casual labor on site and does not pay them. After the 3rd week my gas bottle was ****** along with a brand new battery from Vw. When you confront him about the bad reviews he tells you there are two sides to the story until you experience it for yourself I suspect he works conning people in Cape Town and Gauteng He has no address for his business on his website. I’m now busy with his bank to locate him and have reported him to SARS. PLEASE BEWARE OF KEVIN AND PURE WATER POOLS

Terrible Pool Contractor
Never ever!!!! ever!!!! use Kevin Guelpy from PURE WATER POOLS to do any pool renovations. You will definitely regret it. He has frustrated me to no end over the last 2 years, trying to get him to complete my pool renovation that he was doing. He is a most unreliable human being, a ducker, a diver and a **** of the worst kind. It hurts me, to have to give him one star. I had a problem with him from the start : hiding ruble from the pool in my garden, poor workmanship were you needed to constantly supper vice his workers, no idea of a time line and all ways making excuses and finally when I accidently over paid him he was gone. The only way I got him to answer his phone was to call him from different phone numbers and then came all his promises that he would definitely come and finish his work. Whether that was in a few hours time, or definitely tomorrow, or at the end of the week, or when he had a job in the area, he would never come, most frustrating. Kevin has absolutely no integrity or self respect for himself. It has been an awful experience knowing him, one I wouldn't wish on anyone. During this time the fiber lining started lifting in the pool, when I told Kevin about it, again I got the same lies of him coming to fix it. His 5 year guaranty is worth absolutely nothing. Certainly not the paper its written on. You will never get him back. How he got me two references that seemed alright at the time I will never know. I would never trust them again and the references on his website, now knowing him, in my opinion are totally phony and there is no way he ever build those pools on his site. I wish I had gone onto Hello Peter to check up on Kevin at the time. When I did earlier this year, someone had given him a scathing revue which was Kevin to a tee, sadly it has come down for some reason. Use Kevin from Pure Water Pools at your own peril.

Swimming pool repair gone wrong thanks to 'Pure Water Pools' - Cape Town
Pure Water Pools, run by Kevin Guelpa, was employed in December 2022 to install a fiber glass lining and coping stones on an existing pool structure. The job was supposed to take 9 days, but ended up taking 18 days. The workmanship was dismal and upon filling the pool it leaked worse than before, losing about 5cm in 48hrs. Mud earth was used in numerous places instead of cement. The lining was not installed as promised to below the lip of the coping stones and is already delaminating and cracks 25cm long. No attempt was made by Kevin to communicate with us or to rectify the rushed and unsatisfactory workmanship or remedial work. I would rate our experience with this company as 0/5 if this was possible.
