I hold Redcross Children's Hospital in a very high esteem based on passed experiences. however this time I feel that they have failed me dismally. the staff treat you with such contempt. my daughter was displaying signs of a seizure I consulted a Gp and it was alarming to him as well referred me to Redcross which I was content with due to past experiences and I have never not disclosed to them that I do have medical aid. the Dr evaluation went well I was pleased then I was admitted to the short stay ward the staff is so rude the if u ask them for any assistance it's as if you are a nuisance I had to walk around for 20 min looking for water to make a bottle whilst the key to the kitchen was less than a 2 min walk away instead they proposed I use their formula which my daughter does not drink hence I brought with her own formula. my daughter had a lumber punch. and after having a drip attached fell asleep they left this cup on my seat with medication in whilst I had to get stickers printed and because she was asleep I tried rousing her to take the medication. when the nurse checked if she took it I told her I managed to give her some , she said we'll then she won't get any more. at 5am she started crying uncontrollably and instead of them assisting they were looking at me as if I had done something wrong I just snapped. I packed our bags took my daughter and walked over to rondebosch medical center. Now the sister wants to know whats wrong andbl that this incident is going to fall on her she didnt have a problem all night rectifying her staffs behaviour because just as they are there to do their job because at this point i fail to see it as their passion im a mother that goes to work to ensure that i can provide good health care for my children.at 8:30 they called me not to ask what went wrong but rather where my daughter was and wanted to speak to the hospital staff at RMC.They called my husband to ask " if his aware that I took the child from the hospital and he said yes are they aware that their service was horrible." By then I had mo doubt in my mind that if I didn't take her to another hospital i would have been arrested on charges of neglect. The short stay ward was extremely dirty the hygiene standard ridiculous I had to run around trying to get my daughters bottle to drinking temperature. thankfully my daughter received the medical attention elsewhere but as a mother we do not involuntarily decide to leave everything and go and sit there for hours trusting that the professionals will give our children the care that they need.

MOST HORRID SERVICE!! So, on Sunday morning my 8-year-old son woke up with a terrible tight chest, I phoned for surgeries in the area's, I called Netcare and InterCare but the cost for a nebulizer treatment was way too much, I then called Red Cross, spoke to the clerk and he advise I could bring him (knowing we in Goodwood and this is in Rondebosch) Got to the hospital just before 11am went straight to Emergency as he advised he'll pull up my son's file in the meantime - Emergency was as empty as can be, went to the Nurses station just for this nurse to look half sleepy and ask me so many questions in such a rude way, when I said can you please not talk to me like I'm one of your kids cause you rude she asked me ma'am I'm rude and right there I became the problem!! Sat and waited for a doctor to send me to the waiting room (in the meantime the hospital is filling up in emergency) Friendly Indian doctor came and spoke to all the parents moved us over to the waiting room and started helping My turn to see the doc @13:45, Doctor advised her shift is ending at 2pm, my son needs X-ray, prednisone's and 10 puffs of a pump, cool we went and got assisted back to the doctor, which is the new doctor on duty, DR J.J Riley, advised she can only see to him after the tablets worked out in 4-6 hours, Me asking why the previous doctor did not advise she doesn't know, Dr Riley then advised he can play outside for the 4 hours, she can only assist after 4-6 hours, we then left the premises for food and a book to keep him busy, I counted down 4 hours which was 18:20pm at exactly 16:30 I was back at the hospital, by this time I realized the waiting area was filled up and that we not in our 4 hour waiting period then left to get food again at exactly 18:30 I was back at the hospital which is in my 4 hour time frame. I went straight to Doctor Riley she was busy with a patient and came out to me and said can I please wait in the waiting area she was actually looking for me she could've seen me after an hour he took the prednisone's, but I was gone?????? I then told her that YOU said in 4-6 hours, and I told you I'm leaving for food?? at this point I just walked away and shoocked my head, went back to the waiting area and it's nearly 8pm, my son's chest started wheezing again, his becoming impatient for sitting at the hospital whole day, I then called the lovely retired nurse AJ, Asked her if his x-rays can be handed over to me so I can see a doctor today and explained I had to wait for these hours I left, came back etc., with this info she goes to the doctor and this doctor is checking my address and told the nurse I was rude ??? Doctor than agreed to see us, Asked Koton how his doing, then advised me to not come there again? It's out of my metro hospitals? explaining that I'm not comfortable to go to Tygerberg (where I nearly died giving birth) and she tells me it's not about what I like?? advised on the medication that no syrup is gonna be given but tablets, she then advised I can come back today to get the anti-biotic that's out of stock (after she just said I shouldn't come back here) or I could get it privately, I asked for a certificate and asked is it for me or my son ? How could it possibly be for my son? The attitude was beyond me, I got home and realized that she would've let me wait cause according to her I was rude? and this was her being spiteful? There were parents that got there after me and wasn't attended to when I left just after 8pm? I will never set foot at this hospital again; I can't talk for all staff but the staff I dealt with should really work on their attitudes, I don't know if it's because you are young and know better you treating the people the way you are or is it status? My son was at hospital for more than 10 hours, advised that I should not set foot at Red Cross again? Was told that I was rude just because you the doctor does not make you any better! You guys can do better, for government workers, I think you guys owe US taxpayers that much to deliver a better service!! Thank you, Nurse AJ and Doctors that was on duty, till 2pm (much older staff) you guys were the best to work with than the others that was on duty, Thankful for my son to get assisted though but 10 hours was really not necessary for me to sit at this hospital with a sick child.

I am writing to express concern about the non-functional lifts at the hospital. Despite the excellent service from doctors and nurses, the lift issue significantly impacts accessibility and care. With lifts out of order for months, patients with mobility issues face challenges: 1. Accessibility barriers for wheelchair-bound or bedridden children 2. Difficulty transporting patients to radiology, theatre, ICU, or other departments 3. Increased strain on staff and patients' families I urge the hospital to prioritize lift repairs to ensure equitable access to care.

I just arrived at the hospital with an emergency at the emergency section and not one nurse or doctor is there to help this is unacceptable what is the point of having an emergency section at a hospital and no one is there to assist it passes me off as a parent this need to be addressed!

I came in with my toddler at 3am, I was told he’s not that serious so I must wait, yet when he was finally seen (2 hours later) he was so bad we almost lost him, most of the staff are entitled and rude(for such a disgusting hospital) they hurt my baby so much and traumatised him, with so many bloods taken, lumbar puncture, restraining him, he was so scared it traumatised myself and my husband, eventually they got angry at us (we both looked after him, taking shifts and swapping so we could each rest and see to him ) he pulled out his feeding tube and after that they just sent us to another hospital, without discharge papers, didn’t do paperwork or arrangements with the other hospital they just forced us onto them because our child wasn’t sick enough to be there, yet we almost lost him and he was so sick, if you don’t have compassion don’t become a healthcare professional, I don’t want to hear you complain how you want to go home when my child is screaming in pain, and the fact that they ignored us and treated us like animals
