If possible I’d give them 0 stars. I haven’t even stayed there a full month but service is absolute garbage. I have been complaining for about a month over a roach infestation and week in week out, they continuously drag their feet in getting this resolved. In less than a month, these pests have made themselves comfortable in belongings (clothing, couch, bed, etc) and management has done nothing about it. My final straw was waking up to a ****roach in my bed and when reported, they were so damn arrogant, with the maintenance manager telling me to run and escalate him and his service, as he’s not scared of me. If you want peace of mind and save money, stay very far from this place as you’ll literally need to a buy box of doom for your sake (since only 1 can runs out in a week) and keep getting ignored when you raise your problem. I’m surprised that no one has called the environmental health department to do an inspection of the place.

My experience with Renico is extremely disappointing. Communication is poor, their service processes lack transparency, and overall service is unprofessional. Kgomotso, in particular, is unhelpful and has made resolving a simple matter unnecessarily frustrating. I would strongly advise against renting a property through them.

Renico Construction (PTY) Ltd Our eletricity has been disconnected for non payment yet again which is completely ******* in South Africa as per below. We however did email you on Monday 05/01/2026 to advise you of the issue for us not paying on the 1st as we were waiting for our clients to open their offices next week so we can receive our payments and then pay you the rental for our unit Up until today we have not recived a response to that email bur you have *******ly disconnected our electricy Please could you reconnect our electricity with immediate effect!!! In South Africa, it is ******* for a landlord to cut electricity or water due to unpaid rent; they must follow a formal court process for eviction, as this "self-help" is a ******** offence under the Rental Housing Act (RHA), making them liable for fines or imprisonment, and tenants can apply to the court for immediate restoration of services. Landlords can only disconnect services if the tenant doesn't pay for those specific services (like prepaid electricity) and even then, must follow legal procedures, not just switch off the supply. Why It's ******* Rental Housing Act (RHA): Section 16(hA) makes it a crime for anyone to ********ly lock out a tenant or shut off utilities, with penalties including fines or jail time. Spoliation: Cutting services is considered an ******** disturbance (spoliation) of a tenant's peaceful possession, and courts will order the immediate restoration of services. No "Self-Help": Landlords cannot take the law into their own hands; they must use the legal eviction process. What a Landlord Must Do Instead Give Written Notice: Issue a written notice of breach for non-payment of rent. Apply for a Court Order: If the tenant still doesn't pay, the landlord must apply to the court for an eviction order. Obtain Eviction Order: Only a sheriff, acting under a court order, can legally evict a tenant. What a Tenant Can Do Contact Authorities: Report the landlord to the police, as they are committing a crime. Seek Legal Help: Contact the Rental Housing Tribunal, legal aid, or an eviction lawyer to apply for an urgent court order to have the electricity reconnected. Important Note on Prepaid Meters If the tenant is responsible for paying for their own electricity (e.g., via a prepaid meter), they are liable for those costs, and failure to pay could lead to the municipality cutting the supply, not the landlord directly, though the landlord must still follow legal eviction for the rent.

I would advise anyone considering buying property from Renico to think twice and do a thorough investigation before making a commitment. I purchased a newly built home from Renico with the expectation that, as a new development, basic quality standards would be met. Unfortunately, this has not been my experience. Since moving in, I’ve had to report a long list of issues—some minor, but many quite serious—including: A loose brick on the front stoep Discoloration on the exterior walls Missing bricks and covers in the parking area Multiple holes in the back wall Nails sticking out of the walls (posing a real safety hazard) A brick inserted without cement Floor tiles still covered in glue A shower not sealed with silicone Missing lightbulbs in rooms Cement left in the drainage system, which caused flooding when I did my first load of laundry It has now been over a month, and while a few minor issues were resolved, the more significant problems remain outstanding. I’ve had to follow up daily with contractors, many of whom no longer respond to calls or messages. Some of the responses I've received include vague excuses like, “bricks are still being made,” with no timelines or accountability. What’s most frustrating is the lack of communication and urgency from contractors and the overall poor coordination. I often need to make myself available during weekday afternoons to accommodate their limited working hours—yet there’s still no progress on major repairs. And no one works on weekends. For a company like Renico, I expected better quality control and customer care. It seems little to no quality assurance was done before handover, and it’s clear some contractors rushed the job and have since washed their hands of responsibility. To their credit, a few contractors have shown professionalism and responded promptly—but unfortunately, they are the exception, not the rule. If you are considering buying from Renico, I urge you to inspect everything thoroughly and ensure that every promise is documented and followed through. A brand-new house should not come with this level of stress and unresolved defects.

I’m writing to share my frustrating and disappointing experience with Renico regarding the interest earned on a deposit I paid in 2017/2018, which has never been refunded. During my tenancy, the lease account was transferred from one tenant to another at least two or three times, and Renico simply transferred the deposit each time to the new lease account holder, no questions asked. In 2023, the lease account was transferred to me again, without any issues or clarifications from Renico. When I moved out recently, I served my notice four working days late. Despite being a tenant there for eight years, Renico insisted on penalizing me for the late notice with a full month’s rent. When I questioned the penalty, Marcell Steyn initially referenced a clause that only applies to fixed-term contracts. When I pointed out that I was on a month-to-month lease, they then pointed to another clause saying a penalty still applies, although it didn’t specify the amount. It seems they decide what to charge you based on what suits them at the time. Renico also charged me for repairs, even though no inspection was done when I moved in, which they know. They did an inspection only when I moved out, and I was charged for those repairs. When I remembered that interest is supposed to be paid on the deposit, I asked them to include it to offset the R2,000+ they claimed I still owed. After several follow-ups, Renico finally sent me a screenshot of an Excel spreadsheet showing they had manually calculated 4% interest for the short period I was the lease account holder. They claimed they only owe me just over R300 because the interest “only” applies to the period I held the lease account. They refused to pay the interest earned during the years when the deposit was in the previous tenants’ names, even though they transferred the deposit each time without paying out the interest or disclosing that it even existed. It appears they simply kept that interest for themselves, despite it rightfully belonging to the tenants. I’ve looped the previous lease account holders into my emails so Renico can no longer ignore them. Shockingly, Renico is now ignoring the other account holders’ rightful claims to this interest. I strongly encourage anyone who has stayed in a Renico property to check if they ever received their deposit back with interest. If not, ask for it. Your deposit was invested and earned interest, which Renico seems to keep for themselves unless you demand it. This lack of transparency and refusal to pay out the interest will be part of a formal complaint I’ve lodged. I’ll also be sharing this on social media so that more former tenants are aware and can demand what’s owed to them. Tenants deserve fair treatment and transparency, especially when it comes to their own money.

I Was leasing a unit at 367 Oak Avenue, I paid deposit (Which was more than the rent) and one month's rent upfront. When I moved in it was infested with ****roaches but there was a fumigating spray they used supposedly to kill off the infestation before I moved in but the same night ****roaches were back in their numbers, I needed a place to stay urgently and was closer to work, I would spray every night with doom but they seem to increase by the night and at work ****roaches would crawl out of my laptop bag. The walls are so thin that you can hear the person in the next unit literally whispering and I complained about the couple in the next unit numerous times but little was done about it as the noise carried on, I eventually just let the matter go as no feedback was provided regarded my complaints. I have recently requested to move out as I have found work in a different province, I am being advised of charges that were not mentioned in my contract, to the point that they are taking my deposit and then charging me extra on top. I requested the lady to show and explain me on the contract that I signed that I would be liable for all the charges they are charging me but she refused. Her name is Lerato Mkandla. This is by far the worst place I have ever stayed in and I've seen my share of bad places.
