Do not use Roodepoort Mini Movers

I have used Roodpoort Mini Movers in 2015 and 2018 and were very happy with their service both times. In March 2024 I decided to use them once more, but this time it was a horrible experience. I was moving from Johannesburg to Pretoria.

I am also getting divorced and were moving without any support. I had so much to consider and remember that this time I wasn’t thinking clearly and decided to pack my valuable jewellery in one of the boxes which I never did before. Probably because I blindly trusted them. None of my boxes were marked with the what it contained.

Upon unpacking that evening I discovered that the mentioned box was a total mess. Everything was scratched through and the small box which contained my jewellery was completely gone. Other wooden necklaces were broken and the small wooden ***** were all over the box. I even found some of my cheap, invaluable items in other bags.

I addressed the matter with the owner, Riaan Horak, but from the start he was defensive and actually pointing fingers at me. Insinuating that the items “must have been taken” before or after the move. How? That’s a hell of an assumption.

And he just keeps saying I must keep him in the loop. Basically sitting back doing zip (while booking more moves and his staff rob others blind) leaving me to run around proving his staff took it. Nothing about confronting his staff or expressing total disgust. Nothing. I would’ve expected that he immediately conduct polygraph tests, but he merely emphasised the cost thereof. Apparently his reputation isn’t worth that much.

The jewellery taken, which had sentimental value, was a set of gold and pearl earrings, necklace and ring I bought in the mid 90’s when I just started working, an aquamarine ring my sister and brother-in-law had made for my 21st and a Fossil watch I bought in Germany.

I have to now be inconvenienced by going to the police station to open a case. And hopefully they deem it legit enough whereafter I could hopefully claim from Roodepoort Mini Movers’ insurance as I have none:

May no one be so neglectful and stupid to pack valuables in a removals box - especially if you are being moved by Roodepoort Mini Movers!!!
