I am writing to lodge a formal complaint regarding a highly unprofessional and *****ulent service I received from SkyTech DSTV Installations. On 19 August 2025, I contacted the company to report a problem with my television, which displayed “Weak or No Signal”. I was quoted R350 for a call-out fee. When the technicians arrived, I explained everything I had already attempted and specifically asked them to check the satellite dish. One technician went outside while two remained inside near the TV. They confirmed that the problem was with the dish. At this stage, I asked for a quotation before any work was carried out. One of the technicians rep**** that he first wanted to check something and would then provide me with the quote. However, instead of waiting, they proceeded to replace components without my permission. When I again enquired about the cost, I was told they were “still checking.” Shortly afterwards, the TV began working and I was issued with an invoice via WhatsApp for R5,080. This was completely unacceptable as I had never authorised the work. A heated dispute followed, and I was forced to call my security company for assistance. At that point, the technicians suddenly reduced the invoice to R2,000, which I felt compelled to pay under pressure. I was told that the LNB (“eye”) and some cables had been replaced. This entire experience was deeply distressing, and I believe it amounts to both ********* and *****ulent business practices. I request that this matter be investigated, that the company be held accountable for their conduct, and that I be refunded for the unauthorised work. On inspection this morning in daylight, I saw that a second hand LNB(“eye”) was installed and they wanted to charge me R1350.00 just for that. It is extremely disappointing that consumers continue to fall victim to such ****s. I trust that your office will treat this matter with urgency. Sincerely, Elvereen Swart

****mers of note, I needed my dstv installed. There was already a dish and a cable coming through the house but short. The technician confirmed that there is an LNB which is not working and showed me. Then he said he will replace it and extend the cable. When he was done his invoice was R3679. LNB R1650, cable R130, cable connector R599, labour R950, call out fee R350! The LNB being replaced is less that R800 at retail stores. I asked him why he did not give me a quotation prior to working he laughed and said those are the new prices since they don't get a lot of business for DSTV. I asked him to take his LNB and cable I will pay for the call out fee, instead he gave me a lay bye option. I did not want go back and forth with him for safety reasons but this is not on. I feel I was treated unfairly or is there a cable connector that cost R599 and an LNB for a normal house hold one point connection for R1650?
