I booked online for dinner and a show for three people at Spier for today 15 December. It started raining this morning at about 11 and still has not stopped and a blustering wind has started (it is now 14h40). The dinner and show is outside and seating is on the grass. On the website it states that patrons will be contacted no later that 12h00 on the day of the show in the event of rain. I started trying to contact Spier at 13h. There is no number on the website for events and the general number goes to voicemail. I ended up phoning the picknickery in a desperate bet to get hold of someone. The lady assured me that she will pass my number on to who-ever is in charge. I received an sms at 14h01 saying the show is going ahead and no refunds will be made and to bring something to sit on as the grass MIGHT be wet but not a chair. I have now tried contacting Spier again and ended up at picknickery again. The lady there does not know who is in charge of the event tonight but says she is on a TEAMS group and will post my number there, maybe someone from marketing will phone me back. I find it appalling that I can not contact anyone regarding the event that I booked for. I find Spier's decision to go ahead with the show even though they know the weather conditions are bad, *********. And this for a company that wants to sit on the ethics high horse. I find it ridiculous that patrons are asked to provide their own, what, blankets? What does one put on wet grass in order to sit on it? I don't have sails / drop sheets lying around at my home and will struggle to find some at 15h00 on a Sunday afternoon. It is now 14h57 is and still raining. No-one has phoned me back.

Spier has a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere, yet my only complaint is about some of the staff at Vadas and the Picnickery who do not seem to be well trained. My niece visited Vadas with us about a month ago. We had some queries and went to the counter. I experienced the staff in Vadas to be unfriendly and unprofessional when replying to our queries. I felt very embarrassed, since I invited my niece and her family to visit Spier with us. My husband and I visited the Picnickery numerous times and although some of the staff there are very well-mannered, helpful and able, we mostly find them to be unfriendly and seem unwilling to serve us. Sometimes you are made to feel that you are an inconvenience to them and are interrupting their conversation with their fellow staff member. It has happened on many occasions that we stand at the food counter waiting for assistance, while the ladies ignore us, carrying on with their conversation. I'm sure you that you don't want your customers and especially your regular customers to feel unwelcome?! This complaint is about the ladies inside the Picnickery and not about the coffee barista outside, as he is always very professional.

Subject: Complaint Regarding Treatment of Elderly and Disabled Patrons Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to express my deep disappointment and concern regarding an incident that occurred at your wine tasting area on 26 December 2023. During our visit, my elderly 76-year-old mother and my niece, who has cerebral palsy, were asked to vacate their seats by the manager despite explaining their difficulty in walking long distances. I had politely requested a few moments for them to catch their breath and rest, considering their physical limitations, yet the manager's response was insensitive and dismissive. This treatment was distressing and unacceptable, especially in an establishment that should prioritize the comfort and well-being of all patrons. As a long-time supporter of Spier Wine Estate, I expected a more considerate and accommodating approach toward individuals with special needs. The lack of empathy shown during this encounter was disheartening and marred what should have been an enjoyable experience for my family, on my mothers birthday. I kindly urge your management team to review the incident and ensure that all staff members receive adequate training on handling situations involving elderly and disabled guests with the utmost respect, compassion, and understanding. I hope for a prompt response and reassurance that measures will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Sincerely, Mrs Jordaan

Good day I want to report the receptionist at eagle encounters. My son and I came to visit your premises on Sunday 4th of June. What a wonderful place, but we had a very bad encounter. This lady was on her phone the entire time while we enquired about the eagle activities. She didn't answer any of our questions and we decided to leave. The next moment another (Caucasian) couple came in and she immediately put down her phone and explained everything to them in detail the way she should've done with us. At that moment we were at the door while this happened. I went back to her with my complaint, and I told her I'm going to put my complaint in writing. See alot of racism review from this place. But when they replied to my complaint, they said they never received complaints about the receptionist concerning racism. It's the culture there. Regards Donavan

My friends and I decided to celebrate her birthday by doing wine tasting at Spier. We upon arrival the tasting room was packed and Zippo (staff member) Recommended going for a picnic while wait for our tasting. We were second on the list. She took our contact details and said she’d call us when there’s space. However, she asked the family in front of us to wait inside the tasting room. Another staff member also told the people behind us to wait as it shouldn’t take long. We found it strange that we were the only people sent away to wait but we didn’t put much thought to it as we looked forward to a picnic on the beautiful lawn before our tasting. However, later the security tells us the picnic area is closing now and we need to go query why we have not receive a call from them in over an hour. When we got there our names were ticked off the waiting list and when we asked The staff member she said she called us but we didn’t not receive a call from her. She said she doesn’t know why it didn’t go through but she was clearly lying and said she’ll find us a space now. When we asked her to sit outside she said due to covid they cannot allow more than 4 people outside. However, when we initially arrived there there were people in larger groups outside. She was extremely insincere and we felt as if she was discriminating against us. The white people before and after us all received excellent service and were placed where they requested to be. And it seemed as if she wanted us to leave. It’s sad that we’re over 20 years in democracy and people are still making you feel as if you do not belong. I’m so disappointed in the staff because we were at the Eagle shelter and had such a great experience there, even the picnic was so lovely. However, its sad that we did not receive the same treatment from the staff at the tasting centre.

We received the most terrible, ill treatment form the assistant wine amanager that one can ever imagine. 30/12/2019 We visited spier and where we seated there were glasses which were broken by the windy weather, it took the wine assistants an hour to clean up, we moved and order a bottle of wine, the wine educator which was assisting us went to another tables to assist, and when we requisted the glasses from the guy who came to where we seated he told us he cannot give us the empty glasses which we needed as we wre not helped by him and he does not know what our agreement was with the lady who first us, we tried to tell him that we only need empty glasses does that requires some osrt of agreement and arrangment , he had a very i dont a f look on his face, and when we trued to report him we were told he is the assistant manager i guess he should treat guestes like that.

We stayed at Spier over the holidays. What an hidden gem! What really stood out was how friendly and service oriented the staff are. They really go the extra mile. Every staff member greets you and makes you feel welcome. You see regular meetings of staff all the time - the effort by all is clearly seen in the results. Well done Spier.
