Manufacturing Defect in 2017 Ford Transit Connect 1.5 TDCi Ford South Africa Case Number: 600100021 I want to warn others about a serious manufacturing defect in the 2017 Ford Transit Connect 1.5 TDCi. The cambelt repeatedly fails well before its expected lifespan of 150,000 km - 200,000 km, leading to catastrophic engine damage and costly repairs. I am still young and saved up for years to buy this vehicle. I purchased it second-hand for R180,000, believing it would be a reliable investment for my future. I was aware that the previous owner experienced a cambelt failure at around 100,000 km, which led to a complete engine replacement by Ford. I trusted that the issue was resolved and continued driving the car with confidence. However, after just 70,000 km on the new engine, the same devastating problem occurred—the cambelt failed again, completely destroying the engine. This happened despite maintaining a full service history and using the vehicle with minimal load. Ford refuses to cover the cost of repairs, arguing that I am not a “loyal” customer because I did not service the car at their dealerships every time. This stance is unreasonable, as the cambelt failure is unrelated to routine oil changes and clearly points to a manufacturing defect. If I had known that the cambelt could fail after just 70,000 km, I would have proactively replaced it every 50,000 km to avoid this nightmare. The repair cost is R113,619, almost as much as the purchase price of the car. If I proceed with the repairs, this would be the third engine in under 8 years—an unacceptable outcome for any vehicle. As a young person who worked hard to afford this car, this is financially devastating. I simply do not have the money to cover the repairs and will likely have to s**** the vehicle, losing everything I invested. I am sharing my story to warn others: Be extremely cautious when considering a Ford vehicle. Despite overwhelming evidence of a manufacturing defect, Ford refuses to take responsibility or offer any goodwill assistance. This experience has left me with no choice but to vow never to buy a Ford vehicle again. If there is anyone who can assist me, please send me a direct message. I am receiving no support from Ford, and my vehicle is still sitting at Ford Human Motors in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

Very poor service from F&I, salesperson and management. They are quick to sell a vehicle but doesn't go tje contract trough with you and if you need help they take their time to help doesn't answer the calls or whats app. I want to cancel the deal but no assistance.

This is the worst ford dealer, I serviced my car few weeks ago, few days later I find out there was an oil leak which they didnt tell me about. I took my car back to them Jacques who is service manager promised to give me a quote on parts that needs to be fixed. He promised to get in touch with me on the 9th of this month June 2022 till today he hasn't replied. and the headlight they replaced is no longer working. This is the last email Jacques sent me. Jacques Claassen Thu, Jun 9, 2:47 PM (8 days ago) to me Hi Given I do apologise for the delay as my Parts Manager will only be back tomorrow so I can sit with him to give you my BEST price on parts and labour to repair both your concerns. You will definitely have your quotes tomorrow please if it is possible just to bear with me until tomorrow Regards

Reasonably priced deals on all new vehicles. Used vehicles also available. Customer service is very good and staff are knowledgeable about the vehicles on sale. Safe and secure parking on the premises. Test drives can be conveniently arranged when booking an appointment. Nicely sized showroom in an easily accessible location. Definitely worth the visit, for those looking at purchasing a vehicle.

I received very shocking service from Steven at CMH Steyns Ford in Pretoria. To me he is very racist and does not know how to treat customers.I must say Ford will lose a lot of sales because of him.

Took my car in at Styns Auto, a cmh kempster ford dealer for diagnosis and repairs as I have had a an engine light on for the second time. They said the problem was the oxygen sensors and the warranty would cover them but they will only be delivered the following day, so I had to use public transport of which I had no problem with at all. Was also told that I need to have the chip marks on my screen repaired of which I gave the go ahead.

Following day I got no communication as to when to colleect my car. So I decided to call and was told my car was ready for collection as earlier as 11 am.

Got the dealers premises only to find that my car had grease all over the bonnet and bumper. I was so shocked when I got inside as there was grease stains all over my cloth seats as well the roof. The lady went to call the manager who simply walked past me giving me an eye without any explanation. Waited for over 5 min, looking like a fool until I decided to just save my energy ajnd leave.

Never will I have take my car to CMH kempster esp the one in PTA CBD as I have been doing my services with them.

This is my 4th week. Still no car. Lots of appologies and excuses and paper work but I still have no transport of any shape or form. Suggesting that people driving FORD or want to drive one should rather visit Emperial FORD in Kemptonpark.
